Not having a go at you Mark and a bit off topic with this current discussion but in regard to the historical context and knackers and cane cutting , that is not quite how it occurred Most northern pacific islanders were bought to the cane fields against their will [ black birding ] and just for pure profit and exploitation [ essentially slavery ] When it was outlawed in the 1920 's quite a few islanders returned to their home islands but quite a few stayed as well . Also before but mainly after that time, many thousands of overseas immigrants [ from all parts of Europe and even the U k and even some Australian born men were engaged in hand cane cutting until mechanical harvesting in the mid 60 's early 70 's , Had to be very well paid to do it but that was the deal . No doubt quite a bit of underlying and even overt bigotry and maybe racist inclined attitude to islanders back then , would have to think that it has improved markedly since then but still elements of it existing in contemporary times if Molan's example is any indication .
And it’s actually Graeme Connors, not Graham.
