Why have you named Schuster in this? He was given loads of chances & proved he didn’t have the mentality to be a first grade player here. Plenty of talent & hope he goes well at another team but are we really going to complain about a reserve grader on $750k being let go?
Sam Fainu I agree we definitely should have kept but the others? It’s a shame but Latu is 19 & had 4-5 seperate hamstring injuries the last year, hopefully not a Turbo situation for him but I don’t think we would want another player on $500k in rehab all year.
Tuitavake & Fifita would have been nice for depth but realistically have played about 25 mins of first grade since leaving the club. You seem to have a high opinion of Humphreys so that could be a big loss, hopefully he lives up to the hype this weekend & gets us the 2 points
Unlike many here, I think Schuster is a generational talent, that we should have developed and nurtured much, much better. I get people will claim it's all on him, but I think pressure, criticism, off field situations etc played a big part in his undoing with us. That said, I DO have faith he's going to come back, and throw egg on literally everyone's face.
Regarding Latu, if the club is brain dead enough to just let Humphreys slip through their fingers to Wayne Bennett, you make sure you tie Latu up (and guess what, the chances of re-signing Samuela are heavily increased) - besides, I think we let them go mid contract, to retain the Lodge's, Woods, Browns, Aloiai's & acquire Brooks (who has been downright awful the last few months).
But we sign some absolute no-name halfback in reaction, who had left Rugby League to play in Rugby Union in recent years. A player the Roosters just freely let go, and made out we were signing some superstar (and everyone here celebrated like we won the lotto). Well played Manly - the media PR spin worked wonders.
Tuitavake and Fifita were cap dumps, to fit our current crop in. In MY mind, and I HAVE watched them develop through at many a live match, they were outstanding. Big, mobile, high intensity youth players (still very young). I don't care what The Dragons have or have not done with them - my opinion, is they were ballers, with so much potential.
But Siebold is a win now coach. He doesn't consider the future. That's why we have a slow, immobile, regressing, over weight, injury prone forward pack, that often gets dominated. There's no youthful exuberance, and the youngster we DO have (like James, Matterson, Condon) are CRAP, CRAP, CRAP. And Navale isn't the answer, he's just Sipley lite. ****, we are playing Schoupp (a centre) in the backrow to fill our damned team out, in the event of injury.
See what I mean?
