2025 recruitment & retention

Take you wouldnt like Taupau back?

He is available.

Turning 35
Slowing and Regressing
Injury prone now

I mean, he DOES tick all our boxes.

The one thing he has going against him, is his team are currently 11th (will probably make it into the finals), was competing for a premiership last year. We all know our sweet spot is bottom 1-2 team as our prospect pool.

Unlike many here, I think Schuster is a generational talent, that we should have developed and nurtured much, much better. I get people will claim it's all on him, but I think pressure, criticism, off field situations etc played a big part in his undoing with us. That said, I DO have faith he's going to come back, and throw egg on literally everyone's face.

Regarding Latu, if the club is brain dead enough to just let Humphreys slip through their fingers to Wayne Bennett, you make sure you tie Latu up (and guess what, the chances of re-signing Samuela are heavily increased) - besides, I think we let them go mid contract, to retain the Lodge's, Woods, Browns, Aloiai's & acquire Brooks (who has been downright awful the last few months).

But we sign some absolute no-name halfback in reaction, who had left Rugby League to play in Rugby Union in recent years. A player the Roosters just freely let go, and made out we were signing some superstar (and everyone here celebrated like we won the lotto). Well played Manly - the media PR spin worked wonders.

Tuitavake and Fifita were cap dumps, to fit our current crop in. In MY mind, and I HAVE watched them develop through at many a live match, they were outstanding. Big, mobile, high intensity youth players (still very young). I don't care what The Dragons have or have not done with them - my opinion, is they were ballers, with so much potential.

But Siebold is a win now coach. He doesn't consider the future. That's why we have a slow, immobile, regressing, over weight, injury prone forward pack, that often gets dominated. There's no youthful exuberance, and the youngster we DO have (like James, Matterson, Condon) are CRAP, CRAP, CRAP. And Navale isn't the answer, he's just Sipley lite. ****, we are playing Schoupp (a centre) in the backrow to fill our damned team out, in the event of injury.

See what I mean?
Well I guess time will tell, maybe Humphreys, Shoe, Tuitavake & Fifita will throw egg in our face - personally I think they only 1 that could do that is Schuster but we all know how talented he is. I noticed you left out Hopoate when saying all the young players we have are ‘crap, crap, crap’?

There's quite a "robust" discussion taking place about this in the Dark thread. So I'll leave it at that haha. Here, I'll just say, way to go Manly !
When you say robust, does that mean just complaining or is it an actual discussion with more than one viewpoint?

The two i hated leaving was Samuela and Fifita both could be anything if given time at the club. I didn't like Humphreys leaving but can't see DCE retiring for another two years and he needed to take he's chance somewhere before that.

We absolutely have differing views on many things. There are people who are eternal optimists like NREagle in there.

Worth noting that Tuitavake and Fifita are both 23.

Aloiai at that age had approx 55 first grade games by that age.

I think we overate youngsters often.

Or we can't judge, unless we see how they go. That's why I'm perfectly fine with Simpkin, Schoupp & Faulalo getting a run. Those boys you mentioned are / were standouts in the lower grades. Did you see how they literally tore us apart in NSW Cup in Wollongong? It's on Fox if you have it, to see a replay.

Honestly, I would have MUCH rather see us develop and give S Fainu a consistent run, then acquiring any of Woods, Brown or Lodge.

I mean we would all prefer Samuela.

If we could have kept him on the money any of three you mentioned then I'm sure we would have.

Hooper revealed a $4 million outlay for the Tigers for the brothers over the course of their deals.

“I have heard it averages at $500,000 per season over four years, so it is essentially $2 million each and a $4 million package deal,” Hooper said.

We couldn't afford 500k a season?

Was Samuela willing to stay solo?

Josh A has been kept to appease the younger players who look up to him as there leader. Not offering a contract risked rocking the boat. He’s a glue re-signing. Hopefully we managed to bring his salary down a touch…

Desperately need another second row signing, not sure who.
