2025 recruitment & retention

I watch very few non-Manly matches but Shark Jack Williams has caught my eye a couple of times. Seems a likely type, very direct. Appears to be off contract... any good?
If we land a good 2nd rower Burbo can have a further year or so developing from the bench, and could ultimately take over Jake's spot as a lock?

edit - left 2nd row has not been a strength for Manly this year, we've had Burbo & others filling in and doing their best but obviously the spot was earmarked for Schu and his failure left a fair hole in our plans.

I am waiting for the announcement we have signed lodge to a 5 year deal (there is no mail...just guessing what we will do as it seems the dumb thing to do)
Not saying that's a good idea, I'm just worried the'll do worse.

I was impressed with the "Pied Piper" of Cronulla a couple of seasons back and would have loved him to come to Manly. Something must be amiss as he is no longer good enough to crack the NRL.
I'll repeat a much-used Silvertails call: "I'd take a chance on him at the right price".

Simone Laiafi Awarded a development contract for next season.

The NSW under-17 prop is on the books at Manly and is expected to become a powerful force for the club in coming years. He moves onto a development deal next season before becoming part of the club’s top-30 in 2026.

Geeez they must rate him if he is going development contract at approx 18 and then top 30 at approx 19.

Not outrageous for a outside back but a prop...

Hey mate, just curious where you saw the announcement of this as I can’t seem to find it. Cheers.

I saw he was ranked 8th this year in the 2024 best schoolboy prospects and he made the step up from sg ball earlier this season to jersey Flegg once the sg ball season was done. So he must be very physically developed considering he’s playing u21s as a prop at only 17-18 years of age.

If anyone watched the Parra game last night the young forward on debut Charlie Guymer is off contract for 2025 I believe. Looked like an all effort player that would be solid on the bench next year. Thoughts?

Klese Haas still hasn’t signed anywhere next year either surprisingly. One of the most improved players this year IMO, would be great to have an athletic lock with leg speed & ball skills that allows Jake to play front row.

Joe Chan (Mutual Option) showed good promise at the start of this year but isn’t going to be in the team over Katoa or Blore. Would solve one of our big problems with back row depth & has potential for a good NRL career.

Guymer did hit hard...had a good debut, in a losing side.

It was an article from the upcoming schoolboys carnival where they rated the talent, Brent Read was involved
