MULTIPLE CLUBS FIGHT FOR CHOOK

Manly have emerged as a strong contender for Roosters back-rower Sitili Tupouniua who has been given permission to talk with rival clubs despite three years left on his deal.

It is understood the Sea Eagles have met with the 27-year-old who is expected to leave the Roosters at the end of the season.

Canterbury and the Dolphins are the other clubs in the mix. Despite reports this week that Tupouniua had already agreed to join the Bulldogs it is understood that a deal is far from done.

The Bulldogs however are still well in the hunt to land Tupouniua although the Sea Eagles’ are also circling.

Tupouniua has been told by the Roosters that he is free to leave the club with the Roosters close to re-signing NSW back-rower Angus Crichton for the next two seasons.

The Roosters’ log-jam of forwards means Tupouniua has been reluctantly squeezed out of the club. Manly have some cash available given their decision to cut ties with Josh Schuster who was taking up $800,000 of their salary cap.

While Ben Trbojevic has done a strong job in the matches he has started this season the potential of having Tupouniua and Haumole Olakau’atu on either edges looms as a mouth watering prospect for the Sea Eagles.

Manly have lost Jamie Humphreys (South Sydney) and Karl Lawton (Cowboys) for next season but largely have their roster intact.

From memory he left Manly to be closer to family..

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have confirmed the signing of young outside back Fletcher Myers, effective immediately.

The 21-year-old had been with the Newcastle Knights, but was granted a release from the remainder of his contract at the club to take up a deal which will see him based at the Rabbitohs until at least the end of the 2025 campaign.

Myers, a former New South Wales under-16 player, is originally out of the Manly Sea Eagles' system.

A centre and winger of enormous promise, he is yet to make his first-grade debut, but has played a grand total of 20 NSW Cup games, with the first 11 of those coming at the Sea Eagles - through their affiliate club at

A centre and winger of enormous promise, he is yet to make his first-grade debut, but has played a grand total of 20 NSW Cup games, with the first 11 of those coming at the Sea Eagles - through their affiliate club at Blacktown - in 2023, before he made a switch to Newcastle mid-season.

He has played nine games for the Knights, scoring seven tries, but will now have an opportunity at the Rabbitohs to potentially push for higher honours.

The Rabbitohs' head of football Mark Ellison said Myers is motivated to succeed at the Rabbitohs.

Fletcher is highly motivated to take the next step in his career and he has expressed his excitement to have the opportunity to push for that to happen at South Sydney,” Ellison said in a club statement confirming the signing.

“He is a big body with skills to match, he's a mature young man, and we're looking forward to having him don the red and green of the Rabbitohs this year and next.”

The Rabbitohs have had major injury worries in their outside backs at times this season, and with no guarantee over Campbell Graham's return, Myers will be a handy depth signing.

He links up with South Sydney immediately.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have signed one of the most exciting young playmakers in the country in half Joey Walsh.
A Northern Beaches boy who attends St Augustine’s College, Brookvale, Walsh has signed a three-year deal with the Sea Eagles from 2025.

Walsh hails from the Narraweena Hawks Club in the Manly District Junior Rugby League.
Manly Coach Anthony Seibold said the club had been tracking Walsh for quite some time.

“Joey has been an elite player at schoolboy level. He was the Australian U18s rugby flyhalf and captain last year,’’ Seibold said.

“We wanted to sign what we feel is one of the really elite young playmakers in either code.
“Joey was highly sought after by the Australian Rugby Union and other NRL clubs.
“He played junior rugby league in the Sydney Roosters system, so he has been playing both codes at a high level for a number of years.

“We are very pleased to give Joey an opportunity to come into our squad and to be able to learn from experienced NRL players like Daly Cherry-Evans, Tom Trbojevic and Luke Brooks."
