He's our Shaq Mitchell, signed because..well we know why.
Ouch. seems a tad harsh. I don't have him starting yet but I think he has shown enough to earn the year extension (it's a year, right?). Injuries have held him back a bit but this year could be the make or break for him.

I don't know why people are dumping on Burbo, he has a very high ceiling and is only just starting to show what he's capable of in first grade. I think this will be his best year yet.
I agree. Burbo has played well whenever he's been in the top side. His defence is very sound, but I don't think he's had enough game time to show what he can do running the ball. Unfortunately, his time as a starting edge player has mostly been cut short by injuries. With more consistent appearances, I think he can become a quality NRL player.

Round 1 Jake will need to be in the front row due to Sipley and Lodge being out so the competition for a backrow position will be intense.

That's a bit tough Rocky, Jake is a current SOO and Test player, what Jakey lacks in attack he makes up with knock em down relentless defence.
Ok I think I was misunderstood in my original post.

I love Jake but prefer he play prop and wasn't at 13. I meant we need to recruit an above-average 13 so Jake could go to prop.

Jake to prop would solve a lot of our problems but it will be interesting to see who plays lock if he does move.

Ben play was good as back rower injuries just hurt him. His defence has improved alot

Think that Burbo still needs a slightly better tacking technique to get to that more solid all round type of game needed on an edge .
Overall form did pick up noticeably last season however , certainly has the mobility , plus the versatility to cover centre if required .
Edge players or effective edge players can have a major influence in enabling their side to gain that extra bit of competitiveness . The top sides certainly have good and consistent ,bustling type ones
No question Haumole can provide it , Schuster if he can find his better attributes again combined with his above average skill level .
Burbo as a bench option does have its appeal .
Interesting that Matterson is signed in the main squad for 2 more seasons , maybe he is being looked at as a 13 option and particularly if Manly may revert to a more open style of footy .
This may then reduce the preference of say Jake or Alioia as the 13 but also no assurances that Matterson would be an automatic fit there .
Brown could be an outside consideration at 13 if he can hit his straps again and develop some type of a link role but then may be not that much different from what the likes of Alioia could offer . Navale looks like he needs more time to develop his game a bit more .

I don't know why people are dumping on Burbo,
The scrutinisers /doubters / dumpers Perspective ...

We are all under scrutiny since the day we are born feathered friend
and I see scrutiny as a great opportunity
to rise above our doubters / dumpers

IMO Jake's defence is best utilised in the middle. His defence needs to be utilised well given it's his world-class strength and it has the greatest presence in the middle. No one else will magically become a 13 which some people here believe, Aloiai is very much not a 13. Jarthur was flagged as an option but he likely needs to develop into it first in Blacktown. Matterson could be an option however. In the meantime, Jake is a great presence in the middle, along with Croker. Swapping out those two's tireless defence for Schuster and GCKT would be a terrible combination that would stand as a gaping hole right in the middle. GCKT needs time to get into first grade defensively, everyone does.

I agree with you that a player should be utilized in their most affective position and Jake is definitely our middle man
If you agree that GCKT may need time to get into first grade defensively
This would also apply to Croker offensively as his running metres and Xfactor play is lacking the dynamics of dominant hookers that rank above him

Fair points here. GCKT isn't that poor defensively as most people coming out of reserve grade, in addition to what his size would suggest, as he showed in the recent internationals where he was excellent defensively. However when not backed up in the middle by decent defenders he would have to bear the brunt of the defence and I wouldn't expect him to be able to do that just yet. He certainly will one day but no one should put that expectation on him with two games of NRL experience. Croker I agree, can often lack in offense, but if I had to hypothetically choose between a terrible defense, excellent attack hooker, or a terrible offence, excellent defensive hooker, I'd be picking the defensive hooker any day. Salary cap wise we likely have too much on the other spine members to be able to afford an elite hooker, unless we develop GCKT and Humphreys into one.

We can't afford to move Jake to prop, because we don't have a specialist first grade quality lock at the club. We already have a number of make-shift position due to terrible specialist position recruitment with a halfback playing hooker & a winger playing centre.

I've noticed in the clubs roster page, they are putting Jamie Humphreys in at Hooker & forwards now? Why - because this has worked so well for us with Croker at Hooker (I dare people to list our seasons finishes with Croker playing 9).

Get ****ing specialist players for specialist positions you scrub recruiters. Stop buying up as many Tigers players as you can - people should look at our Balcktown recruits - we are dead set Tiger town.

If we fail yet again - another 11th to below (which I believe we are headed, as possible spoon challengers), these pretenders need to be driven from the club.
