I just checked. Five of our eight premierships were won in white shorts. Maroon shorts won premierships in '76, '78 & '96.

Like the white shorts but especially happy the pants also have a stripe of maroon to make the jersey and shorts blend better. Looks pretty good. I hated the bland shorts, and even just found that earlier in this thread I had put up a little rant about it hahah. Must be a pet peeve of mine obviously.

Not a fan. Away is ok.

I don’t understand why our shorts are so ****. Why dont we have any design on the shorts, and the material looks weak (? dont know how to describe it, like gym shorts)

yep and a few months ago I decided to "upgrade" these shorts that have been sitting in my drawer for years unworn - brand new. I had 5 pairs - elastic had all broken down in the waist - that is how long they had been sitting there. While I was getting that fixed I decided to have the maroon piping added around the legs just to make them a bit different. Cost me more than the shorts were worth brand new but now I have 5 pair - and that bit different with the maroon edging.

Maroon on maroon can look good if done well ... but for me it just ain't Manly ...

All Blacks do one colour well. I think Manly could do the 'All Maroons' look quite well. But QLD have the jump on it now.

"The Manly club adopted maroon and white as its district colours and chose a Sea Eagle as its emblem in recognition of the bird of prey along the Sydney coastline."

“Maroon and white have always been the district’s colours, President’s Cup, and representative teams wore maroon with a white V from the beginning in the 1930s,’’ said club elder Jack Martin."

“It was the same colours as junior club, Freshwater, but that wasn’t the overriding factor in the 1947 choice and they became the automatic colours when Manly came into the district competition."

I agree with 40 nil there isn't meaning behind the colours, just that were via a lineage from what the Manly Presidents Cup team had always worn. The Freshwater thing just seems to be a coincidence.

Manly entered the Presidents Cup in 1932. The NSWRL had a maroon jersey club until 1930 in Glebe. Maybe it is possible under NSWRL's orders Manly just took up the unused Glebe colours. Parramatta too with blue and gold are the colours of the 1930s first grade Sydney University club.

The club has adopted the Red-Backed Sea Eagle as the design for their club emblem. It is hoped to have badges available for club supporters shortly.
