Blake Green is more than just an above average first grader. Last year he was close to winning 5/8 of the year and was very good this year too. A lot of people are underestimating how much of a difference having an appropriate 6 beside our star 7 will make to our chances, last year our squad was top 4 material on paper this year not much has changed. Lane and Cullen have huge potential and are young and would have been next to nothing in the cap so they are handy buys. Uate is the one you scratch your head at and everyone knows why but he too was cheap and has plenty of potential. If like last year we have injuries we won't make the 8. If we have a good run with injuries this year we will easily make the top 8. We will have a quality spine next year with Turbo, Green, DCE, Parcell and a very very good forward pack to build them a platform and a bunch of high quality future stars in the backline to finish off.

If Green is more than an above average first grader, what is he? A fringe rep player? Future rep star? If he's that great why is he on his 7th club? Don't get me wrong I think Green is a good addition (our only good addition) but don't get carried away... Widdop looked like a world beater in the Storm system too, and if that's before your time just look at Chayse Blair.

Lane and Cullen were next to nothing in the cap (as you say) because nobody else wanted either of them, so too Uate. In fact the wooden spooners were desperate to get rid of Uate and he couldn't crack their first grade side.

Maybe one of the 3 of them will work out if we're lucky, but et's be honest - There is very little to get excited about on the signing front, and certainly not enough to offset our losses.

And you do realise the majority of players we let go are fringe NSW cup players.

Granted the departure list has some nuffies on it, as it's taken directly from the NRL website, but don't forget it also contains Jamie Lyon. The signings we have made all put together will not cancel out the loss of Lyon and Buhrer alone.

I hope you don't apply that logic to our marquee signing Blake Green...
Who said he's a marquee signing? By all reports we got him for 350K. That fact isn't important though, what's important is he's a genuine 5/8th which we did not have this year and I stand by what I said barring injury we will be better. Arguing will do us no good though, just like criticism towards players this year, we can judge how players perform once they have played a season for us.

Green found himself in England, came back to storm and showed what he learned in England. Journeymen don't always leave because they are in wanted, it's because they feel they are replaceable. Maloney is a great example every 4 of his clubs except sharks let him go because they underestimated what he could do for their club. When he left they realised what they had lost. Green hasn't improved at the storm he is the same player from England. He was dominating then and has returned and has shown how good of a player he really is. DCE will be the real benificery of greens signing along with the team. We were much better with Lyon in the 6 this year as was DCE. I see green as a 5/8 upgrade compared to Lyon. Green as a much better kicking game and still has a some speed and is a good defender.

Some fair points there. You're a bit more optimistic on Green than I am, but we're not actually that far apart on him.

I can't agree he's an upgrade on Lyon though, but I do understand what you are saying about Green being a specialist 6.

He's underrated

2017 should and hopefully will be a much improved year on 2016 - but I see 2018 as the big turn around year. We will have plenty of cash next year to sign for the 2018 year. We will have snake, matai, lawrence off the books and if Myles and Brown don't perform this year, i see them being booted as well. that would have manly with over 2 million in cap space to sign a gun center and 2 gun forwards. And there are a lot of good players coming off contract next year we could target.

Fox Sports Market Watch Signings for 2017: Blake Green (Storm), Johnathan Wright (Warriors), Shaun Lane (Warriors), Omar Slaimankhel (Roosters), Cameron Cullen (Titans), Aku Uate (Knights)

More to come, hopefully some surprises and some real quality.
