2013 Rumoured and confirmed signings.

Roberts and Tallis both sat out the season

Roberts signed on for a massive " sign on fee" to join the rebels ( 1 million IIRC - regardless of whether bronco league got off the ground or not ) , and took a smaller per year playing contract, as compared to other players .

Ian didn't sit out the season - he just missed out due to injury, and on the Finals that year and lost himself the opportunity of a GF.

Due to serious financial issues (defrauded by some Financial Planner) he was forced into accepting the Super League monies. 🙁

Ian Roberts sat out the 1996 season due to a contract dispute related to the SuperLeague war. Whether he was injured at the time is irrelevant.

Wrong.

Ian had a knee reconstruction in October, 1995 and had asked Manly for a release meanwhile. He would have played if fit in spite of the SL v ARL Court Challenge in hand as he was signed til 1997.

It was granted in July, 1996 by Manly and Ian started with the Cowboys (SL) in 1997.

Ian was great for Manly. His use by date was up when he left. Just to many injuries. Good luck to him and he shouldn't ever be bagged on the forum.

Who bagged him? I agree he was a great player. One of the best ever. But he did sit out the 1996 season.

If I had absolutely no say in the matter, I'd rather be bagged than shafted. Particularly by Ian.

From Ian Roberts' book :

'In September 'Sports Weekly' magazine ran an article confirming Ian's angry defiance of the ARL and resolve to sit '96 out on the sidelines.'

Thanks for "finding out" on our behalf bones.

Manly records the release mid season , I'll leave it at that.

That is correct. Manly agreed to release him mid-season, but only after they found themselves leading the competition without him. Roberts had already made up his mind that he was never going to play for an ARL club again. That is why he was sitting out.

This could go either way...HM seems pretty confident, Bones knows his stuff, grab the popcorn ppl, this could be interesting!🙂

So it wasn't a back ended deal that Roberts took?

In today's Big League:

It's been widely reported that Eels flyer Cheyse Blair is on the move to Manly, but Big League understands the deal is yet to be officially signed and Blair's management is waiting on whether Sea Eagles winger David Williams stays with the club.

Let's hope Wolfie is re-signed. Idon't know how good Cheyse is but he has possibly the worst name in the NRL.

Wolf ---> Hiku ---> Blair

Wolf-> Hiku -----------------------> Blair

Let's not forget Blair would automatically become a much better player the second he put on a Manly jumper, let alone how much he could improve in an offseason of training with the team.

The part I would like to know with regards to the Big League article is if its Blair that is waiting or is it Manly waiting. ie, Blair wants to play first grade and if Wolfman stays on he doesn't like his chances so is waiting to see what happens, or is it Manly won't yet offer Blair a contract til we make a call either way on the Wolfman.
