1st Coach To Be Sacked 2019

The coach who surprises me with his team's poor performance with so many players considered highly is Cleary. I thought Cleary would be a good fit for the Sea Eagles a yar ago. How wrong I have been. Thank the League gods we got Dessie instead. What has happened to Cleary?
He saw Gus off and is basking in that rather than coaching.

Off field incidents certainly interrupted their pre-season. There's murmurings of further issues that have been kept secret but looming over certain players heads. Combine this with the coaching changes and the potential problems around a father and son together in a playing group. It looks like the isn't just coaching, but a cultural problem that has developed.

Crawley Files: Why some Gold Coast Titans players have lost hope
MAY 23, 2019
If you think Gold Coast's performances this year are a joke, you are not alone.

What's worse, some Titans players were left gobsmacked this week when they turned up for a recovery session after the disappointing 22-16 loss to Canterbury and were told they would be going tenpin bowling.

It has apparently developed into farcical scenes, with players even told that they would now be in charge of video reviews of their own performances.

I was contacted yesterday by someone extremely close to the club after comments I made on NRL 360 questioning what responsibility the club should take for Ash Taylor's lack of development as a footballer.

I was told there are some players who feel they are not being given a fair opportunity to develop their careers and that they are in a position where they feel they do not know where to turn to.

Taylor, 24, has come under fire this week for not aiming up to his $1 million-a-year price tag.

But there are people who also feel Taylor is not being mentored in a fashion where he can make the most of his undeniable natural potential & potential Matty Johns said would make Taylor the NRL's best player.

This is the club that got rid of Neil Henry because he was, apparently, too tough on players. It puts pressure on coach Garth Brennan, especially after Titans co-owner Darryl Kelly put the entire club on notice, warning everyone will be judged on results's

The Titans take on Manly tomorrow night, a club with a roster not in the same ballpark as Gold Coast.

Under Des Hasler, though, Manly are working with a philosophy that hard work can make its own luck.

The respective positions of these clubs on the NRL ladder suggests answers from the Titans owners should be demanded.

But the Titans did already hire Meninga, a Roos and Maroons legend to address the player development issues

I cannot fathom how a professional organisation thought it would be a good idea to have Thier marquis player coached by his father.
The very thought reeks of jealousy, infighting and favoritism.

I agree. I've always thought that a team full of average players that play together for each other will do better than a team of superstars who are only playing for themselves or who dislike other members.

It all comes down to culture. Our team this season has proven that.

Sounds like they got hold of Trent’s coaching manual - no video, no training just relax and enjoy life....

Well we have already nabbed a few escapees from that asylum and there might be others there who want to develop and are ready to look elsewhere... we might snare another quality bargain?

Gold Coast coach Garth Brennan is fighting for his job after the Titans’ board on Thursday ordered a full investigation of the club’s operations.

Titans Head of culture-and-performance and Australian coach Mal Meninga has been tasked with heading up the wide-ranging probe into the club’s operations in light of the worst start to a season in their 12-year history.

“The Gold Coast Titans Board of Directors has asked the Club’s Head of Performance and Culture, Mal Meninga, to oversee a full and comprehensive mid-season review of the Titans’ football operations,” the club released in a statement.

Good grief.

Imagine placing the future of your clubs direction in the hands of Meninga??!!

All he has done for 20 years is book hotels and drive buses for a team of immortals.

He is not a coach. He is not an administrator. He is a ex-great player who is way out of his depth.

But yes...Brennan is gone. Get packing Griffin.

Perhaps the desire to coach his son was a career bridge too far for both of them.

You left out onetime budding ACT politician and Melaganis Edwards Johnson (Canberra legal firm) spruiker.

A 50 point thrashing tomorrow night will end Brennan's coaching career
I feel for him - seems a decent bloke. I think the issue is geographical tbh. The GC AFL team is rubbish too - I just think when you pay big name footy players huge coin to move up to Mermaid bloody Beach just the atmosphere of the joint up there has too much of a cruisy party vibe. Players are probably more focussed on their tans and pulling babes in Cavill Ave nightclubs than winning footy games lol

Agree

And the area is full of retirees who couldn't be bothered watching any sport live

Transport is also an issue to get to the grounds for titans and suns

Last time we went to see the titans and Manly the only buses to the ground went to and from Southport which was a taxi ride from where we were staying Waited an hour to get home by taxi from the ground

Also the ridiculous situation where the one road in and out of the ground has to be blocked every so often to let supporters cross the road to get the the trains

A huge improvement for supporters would be to run the light rail out to Metricom and CBUS stadiums

Titans need a coach like Bellamy or Hasler who can instil toughness in the team as well as a trainer like Donny to succeed As we know Ferris is useless

Mate of mine who lives on the Goldie is neighbours with a Titans board member.

Reckons Brennan is a disaster ,has completely lost the playing group.

The “ let’s bring Mal in” is a smokescreen to “ let’s **** off Brennan ASAP “.

Gone within a week or two, Griffin the front runner ( apparently).
