"I've been consistent from the day I started at the club, and I got asked the question before I started at the club about Geoff's tenure as head coach – Geoff's got a two-year contract. I absolutely expect to honour that two-year contract," Kelly said at a recent address to members.
"I have no intentions of doing anything otherwise than seeing Geoff honour that two-year contract."
Joe Kelly 5/4/15

Time will tell whether Mr Kelly has any credibility, or if he is a liar.
It won't be up to Kelly, he's just yes man for the owners.

Toovey is loyal to guys in the team but I really think we would benefit from swapping a plodder like Hasson with Hodges just to add variety around the ruck. If there was one weakness tonight it was the inside ball where one of our big guys got caught and unable to stop the faster player. We need more speed and mobility in our pack!
Hasson is plodtastic, but if i pointed it out then people would whine

Manly has lost 4 games on goal kicking where they scored they same number of tries as the opposition, but still lost.

Rd 3 V Bulldogs
Rd 4 V Dragons
Rd 10 V Penrith
Rd 12 V Cowboys

Manly could just as easily be on 16 points. Even if Manly won half of those games, that puts them on 12 points.

Dude don't forget that for some of those games that we lost on goal kicks WE DIDNT HAVE ANYONE WHO HAD BEEN PRACTISING GOAL KICKING!!! Not yelling at you but **** me that is poor coaching when your top kicker is out you don't tell the back up to go off and practice. Remember when DCE said he'd practice if asked but no one had been? That is totally unacceptable at this level.

I recall one of the players being interviewed after that game, and the player (was it DCE???) suggesting that no back up plan or alternative was discussed, put in place, or practiced?

WOW !

Lets not forget that Des also had the luxury of back ending all those contracts which would have gone a long way towards making him look like the messiah in the players eyes. Geoff came in on short notice at exactly the same time these back ended deals were due to bite....each year watching the playing group erode but each year still getting us to the finals.
I'm not against those who think we need change...I just thought Toovey had done enough for the club to deserve a little more faith.

I said this just earlier ^^^ lol

Nothing to stop Cherry practising his goal kicking without the coach specifically telling him to.

Poor coaching, poor player attitude.
Just poor all round.
Mave a footy team isn't a democracy it's a dictatorship. Players are carefully managed. You can't just walk away and decide to practice kicking. You wouldn't even do that in an a-grade side unless the coach told you to

Well that's a bit silly, isn't it? Can't imagine another job where you wanted to further your skills that you weren't able to work on them in your own time.

Absolute rubbish.
There is nothing stopping any player staying after training to practice goal kicking.
It's a coaches job to tell players what to do. Coaches are control freaks. If someone decided to do their own training sessions we'd instead have stories saying the players are undermining the coach. More importantly in your job do you just decide to do someone elses job in your own time?

It confuses me that Tooves was willing to go into multiple games without your regular goal kicker, without a back up plan or even giving potential kickers a simple heads up to allow them to practice throughout the week; then Tooves proceeds to select players who are not genuine goal kickers and casually appointing someone on game day to kick the goals like it's not an important factor of the game, a factor that in today's game could be the difference between winning or losing!
All the while Tooves has a back up half who was playing well in ressies and is more than ready for a crack in FG, who can also play anywhere in the back line AND is a specialist goal kicker! Tooves only had to google his NYC Stats while at the Tigers to see how good a goal kicker and point scorer he actually is!!

For a head coach to have such a casual, almost dismissive approach towards the importance of goal kicking is very unprofessional and very poor planning, coaching and attitude on his behalf!!
