New contender for dumbest post ever .....

Nah he’s got it in one. I hate negative threads and the op is obviously a window licker but after the forwards ran for ten million metres our fifth tackle options were, how you say ... sh!thouse.

Go back in time and watch 2011 backline plays and it’s genuinely exciting to watch. This lot is a rabble. Obviously need time to click and not have an injury every game. There I’ve said it.

Thanks for your honesty .... this is the most disorganised mess I have seen from any nrl team in my life

We have the players to win games

But the coach has no idea

Fu&K me, I'm pretty sure Baz isn't teaching them to knock it on or kick the ball dead. Players are the ones not executing on the field. Simple game, run hard, tackle hard, hold the ball. Plus we lack a decent organiser.

If Toovey had this footy team we wouldn’t be 2 wins from 9 games

It’s clear we got some supporters that are hypnotised by Barrett’s media spin

And won’t call a spade a spade

He’s had the team for 3 years

What’s the excuse

Look at Penrith $4 million out of the cap where Are they sitting

Your all brainwashed this is a business not a charity

Tooves was a rubbish coach imo.

I don't think it's a dumb post.

Chez does seem to struggle to get repeat sets and seems to kick more to the wing now. Not get a repeat.

I just don't think it's a good plan.

Nah.

Tooves was a great coach. Do you think it's on purpose people like Killer, Matai, Snake and soo many others arnt around the club anymore.

Look at most other teams. Veterans retire and stick around the club.

He was coach of a team that disliked each other and still got to a gf and finals.
Mate, are you serious. Tooves let go Glen Stewart and that team commardery went to ****. There was a massive split. Tooves lost those senior players. Foran and choc left and Brett just hated playing there for a while. Matai was torn as well, and haven't seen him since.

I wonder how many repeat sets Green got us last year? Geez we miss him
Blake Green (11) is second overall on forced drop outs this year, one behind Corey Norman (12). DCE is equal with Cronk, Maloney, Thurston and Reynolds with 6.

Yep. I like a good discussion.

Maybe not great. But good.

He was in a really tough situation. Glenwas on close to a Million. And let's be honest. Never played well again after he left.

Because of Des's back ended deals. Someone on big bucks had to leave.

So he's choise was keep someone on big bucks who is on his way down. Or keep him and loose someone else.

But who knows.

I just hope he gets a good chance somewhere else.

The clinic he and Johnson put on last week was pretty to watch. That grubber that gets through the line then breaks left, giving a chance to score or a repeat set is brilliant.

How many years was McGregor going to be sacked before Rd 8, he has come out and said recently he has finally got the team HE wants and look how they are playing now.

We are hamstrung with salary cap, injuries and a few dud signings but I still think Baz can get this side humming along down the track

Funny you say that. Tooves never got the opportunity to mould the squad he wanted. When he finished 9th like McGregor did last year, he got fired.

Tooves inherited a good squad but an increasingly unworkable salary cap. The squad was aging and increasingly hampered by injury. Lyon, Matai, Snake and Watmough were all retired by the end of 2016.

Look at the squad we had for our last match in 2014 and you get an idea of the budget players we had to play with (hint: look at props):

1 Brett Stewart
15 Cheyse Blair
3 Jamie Lyon (c)
4 Steve Matai
5 Peta Hiku
6 Kieran Foran
7 Daly Cherry-Evans
8 Jason King
18 Daniel Harrison
10 Brenton Lawrence
11 Tom Symonds
12 Justin Horo
13 Dunamis Lui

Interchange
9 Jayden Hodges
14 Jesse Sene-Lefao
16 James Hasson
17 Josh Starling

I'll have serious crack at this.

Repeat sets mostly come from short kicks between defenders into the ingoal area from 5-10m out. The defenders are close to the attacking line and the kicker and have very little reaction time. It is much harder from 15-20m out as the defenders are more spread and further from the attacking line and kicker. Easier to defend from here and it takes a much more precise kick amd execution.

Last year our 5th tackle position was in that 5-10m area a LOT and reaped the benefit with lots of repeat sets. This year our 5th tackles are mostly in the 15-30m area. Even Blake Green would have trouble getting a LOT of repeat sets from 5th tackle kicks from the field position we are starting our last tackle from. A high kick is the option from this field position and they don't get a LOT of repeat sets.

Our big problem is we are either not making enough ground with tackles 1-4 OR we are starting our sets from too far back in our own territory.and we are not giving ourselves quality last tackle opportunities.

Tooves didn't directly get rid of Gifty. It was the Quantum side of the ownership (majority at that point) who said no to offering Gift a decent contract which the NRL rejected as being too low. Tooves was really just the mouthpiece in that instance. He really was neutral when it came to the owners, but that kinda sealed his fate that he was seen as being on the Quantum side and when the Penn's bought majority ownership, thanks to ZtH's influence as he was close to the Stewart's, Choc, Foran etc, he was on borrowed time.

But, you are correct in that it had a bad effect on team comradery and he did lose that so-called senior clique.

On one hand it was bad because the team split and it was the beginning of the end for our decade of dominance. On the other hand Gift was past his best and had become injury prone, sitting on the sidelines more than playing it seemed. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, but it did have other side effects and not just with the team on the field. From what I have heard the senior player clique and Tooves are no longer on speaking terms.

Corporate governance off the field to consistent performance on the field is needed.

Barrett will not win a grand final. History is clear as all coaches who have won a grand final were a past player fron Ron Willey; Stanton; Fulton to Hasler then Toovey came very close. Bring back hasler or sign Ivan Cleary.

Manly must be governed by a meticulous process via corporate governance to instilling a vast succession program of players that will create a dynasty & ensure Manly remain in the glory days instead of being 14th on the nrl ladder.

Only a nutcase would want to come in at this stage to coach the team and they would want big $. Ha$ler has done it all before and would be suited to this type of pressure and environment. Personally I'd prefer Ivan if I had a choice. The club needs to pull it's finger out as whole and not just at the coaching level.
