This suggests a $500k fine to their cap this year as a result.

And they still managed to sign Shaun Johnson and Seggy while this investigation was happening while Mitchell Pearce was openly told to give us a wide berth...
It'll be the same way scam will be forced out of the scum if their penalty stands. If Cronulla signed Seggy to loophole the last signed, first out nrl penalty; what if the NRL don't register his contract, does that mean Shaun Johnson is actually the last player and he'll be forced to go?
edit: You're welcome Journos if my point above actually has some merit and as such (and per usual) you steal it to write your own column filling drivel.
Agree - not saying we should have signed him, but as is usual, when it involved us, outcomes across the board were very different...And as much as at the time it would have been a good signing, I think we dodged a bullet there.
For two years like Manly?https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...s/news-story/87c663093f2d49040d93270661ea2718

This is why the salary cap is a waste of time and every fan knows it is being rorted.
Bring in a points system with players worth X.
Eg:
Club player 4
SOO player 7
International rep: 10
If the player debuts for your club but develops into a repetitive a discount is applied.
Discount for players that spend 7 or more seasons at the same club.
No discount if you sign a player from a other club than plays rep footy within the first 2 seasons.
If a club wants to spend $10,000,000 or $50,000,000 on players a year that's up to them but they are limited to the same points limit as every other club.
So much more transparent than the current system and will stop clubs having all the rep players and claiming they are staying for the love of the club.
Salary cap breaches will never stop, every club has or is breaching it, just some are better at hiding it than others.
Does any of this relate to Lyall's time as CEO?
So, what would be the points cap for an NRL squad of 30?This is why the salary cap is a waste of time and every fan knows it is being rorted.

Yeah but the Donkeys, Drizzle and Rorters are always under the cap so they'd never be fined. This will only apply to the real set of books not the dodgy underhanded scumbag a**hole set of books that those clubs and others have,Tax. The more you spend over the "cap" the more tax you pay into a pool that gets dispersed to the bottom teams.
Roosters spend 15million then they pay a tax on the 5 mill over the cap.
First million over say 15% tax and the % goes up for every million and every year the club is over the cap.
