If this is true:

"The testing was part of the standard excavation planning for the new centre of excellence on the northern side of the stadium."

Then good one guys for doing that before the finals.

What Manly have to realise is that there is no level of paranoia that is too high with regards to Greenburg and his vendetta. The people over Lottoland way need to get this into their heads, stat.

Knowing that Todd is looking for any, any reason to dump Brookie as a home final destination, everything should have been put on hold until the game was done.

If we get through the asbestos drama, then don't immediately go out and test the integrity of the metal structures, don't go stuffing around with the pa system...just... dont...do...anything...

We are dealing with man showing all the behaviours of extreme narcissist and borderline personality disorders.

It's the ultimate in don't rock the boat with this guy, until you're safely on shore.

Funny thing is when my family moved to North Narrabeen in the late 20's it was the only place they could afford in Sydney.
There was no western suburbs, and everything east of Pittwater road was swampy farmland and the cheapest place to buy in the whole of Sydney.
Same with my Grandparents when they moved to Freshwater, called Harbord then. It was pig farming territory that no one wanted to live on.

Playing devils advocate, this could be a good thing.Given the injuries and suspension, chances of winning are tough no matter what so the venue is irrelevant.I know many fans wouldn’t be happy with a move from Brookie, but the embarrassment of having to move may be the kick up the bum the council and club need to finally get the ground upgraded

Sadly it would be an excuse to close it down for good as the Council would be up for the remediation cost :(

if they take it away, we need to ram home just how much the NRL has it in for us. Go postal. Literally launch strike action, a mass pitch invasion and 'sit in' wherever the game gets played. let off flares. The whole kit and kaboodle. Draw attention on a bit scale. RUIN the NRL's plans. make them look stupid.

Could be quite fun actually.

Especially as the SCG is closer to both Sharks and Manly via public transport and is being set up for Friday anyway @

Was there much talk in the media in regards to the surface at BankWest?Guarantee if it was Brookvale,it’d be high on the agenda.Lucky the Roosters won’t have to play there,BMorris won’t go near it

Comments from the Council CEO:
"The expert advice received from the engineers today indicates that based on their preliminary assessment, there is no unacceptable risk to public health," council CEO Ray Brownlee said.
Now the wait is on for the NRL’s final decision.

They said traces. It could literally be a few 50 cent piece sized pieces of fibro. That's and easy fix.
Even if someone dumped a trailer load of asbestos on the hill over night it could be dealt with in a day.
If they take the game elsewhere then it's a ridiculous total over reaction and means in my opinion something suss behind the scenes (Todd) is going on.

I loved the fake generic footage of people sifting through rubbish wearing masks that the today show ran with this morning. Talk about a beat up.

For too long Manly fans who are regulars to Brookvale oval have endured poor facilities for so many years and as much as I want to blame the NRL for the potential loss of this game to another venue, front and centre in my thoughts is years of neglect from the council to do something about the problems that have pretty much been a talk fest for the last 25 years.

We are now at a critical time of our clubs existence. Never before have I seen a more hostile ruling body than the one we have now which has its agenda and we are firmly seen as a problem club for them. Once the new SFS is done there will be enormous pressure on clubs like Manly, Dragons and Cronulla to play games at this venue as Greenturd's ultimate goal is for the Sydney teams to play at no more than 3 venues.

My fear is that if we do not get action on Brookvale oval ASAP, our choice of home ground will be taken away from us.

If there are traces of asbestos the council must sort it out ASAP. They run this ground and have made it as difficult as possible for the club to be sustainable by charging outrageous fees to hire this very inadequate facility.

I love Brooky, been going to games there since 1974 and I don't want to lose it as a home cause I have so many memories there. The talk fest has to end and definite action is needed. Do it now or soon it will be too late!!

Just build a shiny new stadium away from council owned land or whatever it is and be done with it already!

Enough of you old farts holding the club back because once 60 years ago you slid on yer butt down some crappy hill.

NEW STADIUM NOW!
NEW STADIUM NOW!
NEW STADIUM....NOW!

Asbestos concerns put Lottoland in doubt as finals venue

Manly are in danger of losing their first home final in over a decade due to the discovery of asbestos traces on the famous Brookvale Oval hill.

Just hours after the Sharks booked their passage to the post-season and set up a Battle of the Beaches with their famed rivals, the NRL announced the venue will remain 'TBC' until a safety report on Lottoland is lodged on Monday evening.

Via a media release on Sunday night, the NRL said that testing around Manly's planned centre of excellence construction had revealed isolated traces of asbestos on the northern end of the Lottoland hill.

Bankwest Stadium has been pencilled in as the alternate venue for Saturday's elimination fixture if Lottoland is not up to scratch, with all ticket sales on hold for 24 hours until the scheduling can be confirmed.

"Our number one priority is ensuring the safety of our players and fans. Unfortunately it could not be guaranteed when the schedule was confirmed," NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said.

"We have given the local council and the Sea Eagles a period of grace of 24 hours in order to assess the safety of the venue before we release tickets.

"We have worked with Northern Beaches Council and the Sea Eagles to ensure the club is given the opportunity to host a final, while ensuring the safety of our supporters is paramount."

The discovery of asbestos is just the latest drama around Manly's iconic home ground, which hasn't hosted a finals game since 2007.

Last week's banning of a fan for two years for harassing Melbourne's Will Chambers as he went up the tunnel saw concerns over security raised by NRL HQ.

Manly has also had to provide assurances it could accommodate potential NRLW fixtures that will be played before NRL games throughout this year's finals series, which would require temporary dressing rooms being made available for female players.

It's understood that Cronulla officials were already weighing up a push to have the fixture pushed back to Sunday afternoon when informed of the drama in the wake of the Sharks' 25-8 win that ended the Wests Tigers' season and Robbie Farah's career.

As it stands the Sharks are facing a six-day turnaround to next Saturday's clash with Manly, while the rest of the NRL's finalists have seven to eight days between outings.

Captain Paul Gallen is adamant his side should get the same recovery period as the rest of the top eight, with Manly having eight days between the game and last Friday's loss to Parramatta.

"It's just common sense that we play next Sunday," Gallen said.

"A seven-day turnaround gives us every chance to prepare well, which is fair enough.

"The other teams have more than seven days. It's not trying to get an advantage it's just common sense. We're going into semi-finals.

"The other code [AFL] have a whole week off before their semi-finals so people [should] see the best rugby league. We should have a seven-day turnaround.

"It's still a knock out game, it should be played on Sunday."

The extra day's recovery could prove critical as far as John Morris's teamsheet is concerned, with Matt Moylan racing the clock to be fit due to ongoing hamstring troubles.

Morris revealed that he had just confirmed his starting 17 towards the end of captain's run on Saturday, only to turn around and see his star fullback hobbling from the training paddock clutching his hamstring.

Five-eighth Shaun Johnson also battled a quad injury throughout the week before turning in a classy performance at Leichhardt, but Gallen was not optimistic about Moylan pulling off a similar bid given how recently his latest flare up occurred.

"I don't think he'll be right next week if you ask me my gut feel," Gallen said.

"A six-day turnaround after missing today and yesterday's training session. So gut feel is I think he'd be pushing it next week."

Does Gall realize pushing it back a day will also give us an extra day so they will still be 1 day less?

Gallen isn't great at Maths.
He needs to take his shoes off to count his SOO series losses.

From what I remember Damien Keogh and his Sharks are huge fans of the white powder so what's the problem... we could charge the Sharks fans by the gram for the Devils Dandruff and fund the renovations of the new ground. For them it would be like fossicking for gold or a treasure hunt.
