To be fair McDermott might as well be with his numbers....

Chris Gayle has hit two test Triple Centuries so he's no hit and hope merchant like Warner. I think Warner should concentrate on making the NSW shield side first before he gets too concerned about donning a baggy green.

Looking forward to seeing how Usman goes in this test, from the little I've seen of him he looks like he could go alright if he gets a bit of luck and gets a start.

I imagine that it will be between Doug the Rug and Hilfy for 12th man duties. I hope Bollinger gets a go on his home deck.

Shane, Shane, Shane. Why do you bother? Absolutely abysmal side. You're a gee-up poster right?

Has McDermott played more than 3 Shield games? Doubt it.

Warner can't make the NSW side. White at 4? Hahaha, get off the chong. Hauritz a better batsman than Smith? Hauritz can bat a bit, his tons testify that, but seriously, lay off the hammer.

Clarke's a class act, out of form though. **** people have short memories.

Khawaja and Hazlewood are future superstars. Shame Hazlewood's injured.

I still want Watson batting down the order, and bowling a bit more. Unfortunately the opening position is brittle. Hughes should never have been dropped when he was, or recalled when he has been. He's got the talent though, all he needs is patience/time and faith.

Smith has the talent (unorthodox, but made of the right stuff but isn't ready imo.

Khawaja's the man.

I'm also sick of the Ferguson and Marsh love. They average 35 and 37 respectively in First Class cricket.

Nic Maddinson has started his career off well. Hopefully in 2-3 years he is doing the same and could very well be knocking the door down.

Well i was just giving an insight into the Aussie teams depth and life after Ponting,Smith cannot bat for **** and isnt a specialist spinner, whats his 1st class top score?

All ive seen Smith do is take 2 catches (last year with boundary rope)

Clarke is almost as old as Ponting,Why bother keeping if we're gettin rid of the old men

McDermott has a very pure bowling action
Hazlewood will be a superstar
Havent seen Kwawja bat yet but much good publicity, although Jacques used to have that to!
Haddin is in career best form, cant go anywhere
Hussey is the same
Gaile and Haddin can settle down when they need to,why not White and Warner,Warner infact is changing states asap due to being left out of shield cricket
I submit that even bloody Harris can bat as good as Smith

Hi Shane,

Smiths 1st class top score is 177
Ponting is 36, Clarke is 29
McDermott has played 1 shield game
Hazlewood does look good but injured
kwawja has a good style
Haddin should go for Paine no?
White couldnt crack 50 in 7 innings in tests and has a first class average of just 42, he is only 2 years younger than clarke who your feel is too old already.
Warner has a first class average of 26
Smiths first class average is 41, cant bat but white with 42 can??

people forget that White used to be a tail ender? when he was in the test team he had some very handy scores in the tail.

Let me put this question to you how many batsmen have scored a century against England this year? Smith? Khawaja? no CAMERON WHITE! you people are so blues biased its an absolute joke!

In the 2006/07 Sheffield Shield, he averaged a tick under 40. The next season, just under 50. The next, nearly 58. And last season, 47. In between were prolific 50-plus seasons in country cricket.

Victoria at just 20 years of age, and has performed with distinction for seven years, widely praised as an imaginative, cheerful, determined skipper who leads from the front.

In that seven years his sides have reached five Shield finals, winning three; the last four consecutive domestic one-day finals; and all five domestic Twenty20 finals, winning four.(all while most of you claim that NSW has all these wonderboy players that should be automatic selections for Australia)

There is more to his ability than as a limited-overs power hitter. 16 first-class hundreds don’t speak of a lower-order cudgelman having a lucky flail.

And for what it’s worth, he’s also an outstanding slip fieldsman, something missing since Shane Warne and Mark Waugh rode off into the sunset. Ponting is very good, but his athleticism and ability to throw down stumps are wasted in that position.

In every facet of the game, White would bring something to the team, but leadership is the most important. Australia’s future would be looking far more stable if he had already notched a dozen Tests.

he does not look like test standard batsman.

Granted not many look that way at the moment but white has done nothing this season either average under 30 with 1 half century against the second last placed south aussies with jsut over 100 runs.

Kwawja is leading the way with 600 @ 70 odd this year and Marsh has about 500 @ 60

Cameron White isn't the worst batsman going around that's for sure. I think the only thing stopping him being picked over Smith is that he has virtually given up bowling and the selectors seem determined to have a number 6 that offers a bowling option. You couldn't pick him as a specialist bat in the top 5 IMO.

But we pick Clarke as a top 5 specialist bat?

England were in between tests when they played their 2nd string bowling attack (still pretty strong, but no Anderson) against Victoria on a batsman's paradise (the MCG).

How'd they all go in the first innings in bowler friendly conditions in Hobart against the Poms? White failed and Smith got 60 odd.

As for the NSW bias, check out the Shield ladder (also, this is a forum for Manly fans  ;)).

but it is a cricket forum Volley.

having said that it always amuses me the anti NSW bias, when there hasnt been a blues selectorr for many years.

sorry Volley but they weren't between tests and they weren't at the MCG and Tremlett arguably their best bowler this series was playing. The pitch offered a bit to the poms early so smith and o'keefe had the better of the conditions. in the second innings when the conditions were equally as friendly for both batsmen white looked a class above smith! how'd your boy Khawaja go in that match again?
