Wingers

Yeah, a "good mil" left to replace the 9 players above. Won't be adding any quality with that kind of money mate.

The only profit there is Plod's 500k, which will disappear on upgrades real fast. The other vacating spots will cost the same to re-fill as they will realise us, probably more.

Part of Uate's money was still being paid by Newcastle and Hastings is 200k/year, only this year's portion was 350k. So that's about 300k missing from the "2 mil we should have".

And then there's the 330k cap penalty.

I love your sentiment mate but reality bites hard.

we don't need to replace all of them ... we have some good young players coming through ... just need a couple of good experienced players

Yes we do but those top 30 players need to be replaced, whether it be by our juniors or new signings. Either costs a minimum of 100k. Ando, Fainu and Amone are probably the only ones ready for our 30 IMHO, maybe Metcalf or Cust, so will need 4 or 5 new guys including a 6.

Because we have plenty of options for centre and wingers, but useless options for 5/8 .
Walkz is already under contract and has proven he can play 5/8 so why spend mega dollars experimenting with another 5/8.?
TB can use the rest of the season to experiment with different backline combos with the players we already have (minus M and J Wright, Hodko)
Instead focus our spending on front row and edge forwards.
Yea true but it could be a little tricky when at the same time trying to stay away from the dreaded spoon.

I have a suspicion that all will become clearer tomorrow. Personally I think we are going to loose a few players this week to other clubs as well, which will allow TB to "blood" the 5 up and coming for the rest of the season. I don't think is necessarily a bad thing anyway provided we can retain them from clubs poaching them.

According to a player agent I was having dinner with last night he was joking that the only Manly player not asked if he was interested in changing clubs mid season or next year was the guy we want to offload - Hastings. He said even the brothers Tom & Jake had been asked by the Dragons if a deal could be made. Almost threw up my meal!

Interesting.

Who do you think we are losing this week
?

In the managers opinion is our cap and club completely ****ed? Any good news on the horizon?

Hodko good depth option. Bring in norman. T.wright and anderson on the wings with kelly walker. Taufua and suli as depth. Speed speed speed. Look at the blues this year.
Yeah but we'd be the weakest defencive backline in history

Kelly has been outstanding defensively and Walker knows how to defend agressively. Backline isn't too bad in defence.

C'mon Turbo.
I have been one of Kelly's biggest supporters here, but you can't say with a straight face that Kelly has been outstanding defensively.
He is an adequate defender, sometimes gets beaten 1 v 1 on occasion ( as most centers do).

This begs the question - why would the Dragons want to do a deal with the Turbos (an expensive one at that!) when they have De Belin and Dufty, and a cap to conform to :wondering:
Hands off Dragons! :finger:

Kelly has been outstanding defensively, improved out of sight since 2017.
Yeah he has been way better with knowing when to shoot out and in from the line. He seems to be making really good reads this year rushing players more often than doing last years back pedalling

I have a feeling he was giving you a gee up.

If we had Tom Wright (small and defended poorly against saints), Walker (who's aggressive but rarely sticks with his tackles, Kelly (who's improved though still needs time to grow confident), and Anderson (small), we'd have a midget, indecisive, bulldozable backline that would get utterly annihilated in demoralising fashion, then we'd want to kill them and all of a sudden the careers of everyone in that backline are dead

imo 🙂

That backline would be similar in size and play style to melbourne and they sit top 8. It's a fine backline if it ever gets put together and I'm sure they will do awesome. We need to think points and attack not try to play safe and conservative like this year.

Watch the Saints game again. Yes Wright missed a few tackles, but that was mainly because he was trying to cover for other players. His one on one defence was aggressive and effective and he made a couple of try savers. Under rated defender I'm afraid Harry. Just needs to stop trying too hard to make defensive shots out of his range when others should be handling it. And I'd hardly call him small. He's 6' 1" tall (taller than Walker and Kelly) and at least 90 kgs in weight but strong in build. A good backs build
