Wingers

Is it just me, or are we lacking true raw pace in the wings. Look at the best teams, and they all have just that

Akuila's speed is great, but his defense and ball handling is awful.

Jorge Taufua just seems really off the pace when it comes to speed. His play the balls are as slow and lethargic as I've ever seen them. Literally, I could book a cruise, enjoy it, return home by the time he's played the ball. His defense is okay. His kick return is okay, but is ruined by his play the ball speed.

Next season, if Kelly (not the fastest) and Walker are our centres, Moses Suli may be our other winger, and he is atrociously slow too. We'd literally have the two slowest, forward like, slowest ever play the ball wingers in the entire league.

Am I the only one wanting some explosive, aggressive, speed to burn type wingers to get around the opposition?

I can't remember a long ranged raw linebreak and try for us this season out wide. We lack any type of pace.

Tom makes breaks up the middle, but I don't even consider him the fastest fullback in the game (think Tedesko), but Toms breaks are up the guts mainly.

Anyone agree here?

Will get lambasted but Tom wright should be put in for Uate now. hes off to UK and really down on form so nothing to loose.

With troops coming back if he doesn't get the utility spot on bench put him on the wing. Fast and can catch a high ball which we need. The rushing defence would have kittens with him running at them in open feild.

This is coming from the bloke who wanted Cuthbertson on the wing back in the day

Agree our wingers are too slow and and not tall enough to handle the high balls.

Wingers don't need to have binding speed or be 7-foot tall to be good - look at Robbo, my favourite Manly winger of all time. But they do need to be good at catching balls, taking hit-ups and finishing tries. At best, both of ours can do two out of the three.

I actually see the biggest issue with our wingers being ordinary under the high ball and Uate is that kid you tell to stay on his winger, he nods "yes", then sprints 30m infield at the backrower....
Both have some decent carries and think Taufua was 1 of the best getting tough yardage in the NRL, still decent but far less impact as expected after time out....but do confess - need some extra pace out wide and I think his name is Jade Anderson and will get the gig in 2019.
Also in 2019 Tom Wright should be in that backline, speed and great feet with the thing really lacking atm, adventure & unpredictability...hope to see him the remainder of 2018 gaining experience.

Speed is slightly further down the list for me - I want my wingers to be great under the highball, have the ability to work those first two or three plays out from our end and be able to finish off a try in the corner 9 times out of 10.

My ideal winger is David Fusitua. The guy isn't lightning fast, but he makes metres out of his own end, finishes off essentially every try that comes his way and rarely drops a high ball whilst defending and is a huge aerial threat when attacking.

Haven "t seen Suli under the high ball yet and ideally he could be quite reliable there . If it may seem prudent or a good option to have Tom Wright , Walker and Kelly [ and no reason why it should not ] in the 5 / 8 and centre roles and Suli and Anderson as wingers in the not too distant future, may be the best outcome then to be able to accommodate and retain some of the best current back line talent in the club plus ensuring that speed is a real plus for Manly again . Some suggestions previously that Jorge could be used as an impact back rower off the bench at some future stage but this would be debatable too . Not totally definite that Anderson and Suli for instance would be the best wing combination for next season and on wards but right now probably do seem as good an option as any presently on Manly's books .

Taufua as a bench attacking backrower works - to run him at the edge defenders or behind the ruck, but defensively would not cut it....hits well as a winger blindsiding a centre and shutting down plays at times, but this is completely different to playing square in a defensive line and making decisions as an edge defender....this is a specialist key defensive role & would be a disaster imo.

I have been saying this all year. But Trent now seems to want Corey Norman.

Hodko - what a waste of salary cap space
Hodko good depth option. Bring in norman. T.wright and anderson on the wings with kelly walker. Taufua and suli as depth. Speed speed speed. Look at the blues this year.

Maumolo and Fusitua pls. Those two are my fave winger combo. Makes a huge difference to momentum for the Warriors.

Fusitua unfortunately still under contract. Maumolo still unsigned for next season, I’d love to see him in Manly colours as well..

Anderson is fast and tough. Should have been in the 30 this year, but I would hope he has one wing sown up for next year. Taufua I would suspect has the other. Also an excellent cover for Tom T. If Barrett uses his brain, he should be trying either Walker at 5/8 and Tom Wright at centre, or the reverse. Both speedsters and potentially explosive. Or Kelly at 5/8 and Walker and Tom Wright in the centres. With Tom T coming though from full back and hopefully Anderson on the wing next year, that would be one explosive super fast backline...what a change that would be from safe and slow..

FEKI A GOOD FIT FOR MANLY
In desperate need of outside backs, watch for Manly to approach Sharks premiership-winner Sosaia Feki.

Feki has dropped down the pecking order at Cronulla, stuck behind rejuvenated winger Edrick Lee and young-gun Sione Katoa.

Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett is need of a strong ball-carrying outside back like Feki, especially after Akuila Uate's decision to head overseas next year.

Love to get Feki.

He always gives us trouble, catches high balls and is a nice big, speedy winger
