7th plays 10th , winner goes into the 8
8th plays 9th , winner goes into the 8

Would certainly add some interest to the Finals , and a real benefit to finish top 6.

It’s Phil Slothfield’s idea, but forget that , and is seriously being considered by the NRL , probably when team 18 comes in.

I mean how long is a piece of string, you could argue 8 rewards mediocrity and we should go back to a top 5.

Thing is at 18 then 19 teams you run the risk of 6-8 teams being dead with 2 months of the competition to go.

It sounds good and exciting, but wonder if teams finishing 7th and 8th should in some years be playing against 9th and 10th who may well have more losses than wins, worse for and against and 1, 2 or more losses worse that 7th and 8th, but get a shot at a lucky win when they won't be going much further after that. Some will argue same for 7th and 8th, but they could do more damage than an average 9th and 10th team.

I mean this year, you are punishing penrith and roosters by making them play fins and manly.

I like the EPL idea that last round all games kick off at the same time so no-one can coast on prior results. Will never happen because the NRL are cucks to the broadcasters.

Booze couldn't come up with such an idea and he didn't.

He's stolen the "idea" from Joel Caine (ex-footballer) who's promoted it on his SEN drive show for the last 2 or 3 years, who had the sensibility to state that he's wanting the NRL you adopt the NFL concept.

That pathetic sack of alcoholic hepatitis (Booze) should, at the very least, acknowledge that it wasn't his idea but even tonight, he ran with it claiming to have been in discussions with "high ranking officials" for years about the idea.

I hate to agree with Read but he is 100% right.

Its a flawed idea, the only thing this does is it changes which teams rest players.

You cant tell 7th, 8th 9th or 10th wont rest players if their position on the table is locked in.

PS Its not Rothfields idea, as he stated on 360.

Yep Sugar has been yammering on about this for ages. At least he was original with it. Slothfield should at least give him credit

Rothfield never said it was his idea.

Just that he was in favour of it. I think he credited Blake Solly or someone else, no mention of Able or Sugar.

I think if this is to stop teams resting players it’ll be a failure as any sides that are locked into a position, regardless of results , would probably rest players.

The idea is growing on me. From an entertainment perspective it has appeal. Not sure it will necessarily eradicate top sides resting players but the extra week off might stop the nonsense Penrith just pulled when they let down the NRL, the fans and their NSW Cup side's chances.

NRL clubs and broadcasters have been briefed on a proposal to introduce a “Wildcard Weekend” as part of a new finals system that could be introduced as soon as next year.
