Why has Hasler lost the playing group?

Albert Hopoate says hi.

-Schuster was blooded last season.

-Haumole was blooded in 2019.

-Saab has played every game.

-Keppie was blooded in 2019.

-Paseka has been chosen every week.

-Garrick has proven the doubters wrong.

-Croker has proven the doubters wrong.

-Jake has proven the doubters wrong.

-DCE has found form.

-Foran has proven the doubters wrong.

-Marty has proven the doubters wrong.

-Parker has proven the doubters wrong.

-Turbo has returned.

-The defensive structure has changed.

There are way more examples I could list - but I couldn't be assed. So many variables impact upon the fortunes of a footy side.

I believe Walker and Siro might prove a few wrong before the end of the year.
Sadly you need to just move on. The Des haters will blame Des for everything and as I have said if it wasn't for all those injuries in those years here and at Canterbury where GF's were made and won - well Des would have got wooden spoons each of those years. I certainly admit Des has made errors but understand to a degree the rationale with Schu and Guac - not with moving Walker to fullback. Des is not perfect - he makes mistakes but he is a damn good coach. I didn't want him back after his treachery to the Dogs. I was one of those screaming saying no - not because he couldn't coach but I hated what he did to the club. So I am certainly no Des apologist. But he has always been and still is one of the top shelf coaches - it is that simple. What some people can't get through their heads as keyboard warriors is that.... drum roll - they are sitting on the keyboard and not working as an NRL coach because like me they simply have no idea what it really takes to build and mould a winning side and that Des just might have a better idea and have more knowledge. Who would have thought a 17 year coach would know more than us?

All spot on.

News Flash.....

Haven't you heard @Brisbane Tragic.

all you need to do is throw the kids from under 20's and regies in and everything will be sweet. this coaching lark really isn't that hard.

This thread just keeps on giving. However, posts seem to be equally divided between the Des hating heretics and the Des fanboy disciples. No middle ground can be found between the two bitterly opposed philosophical camps. The heretics on one side claim that Des is fallible, whilst the disciples assert that Des is completely infallible. Part of that assertion is that Des made no mistakes in team selection in the earlier rounds, and that it was all part of a Master plan only made visible to the disciples. The heretics assert the opposite, but are doing so from an increasingly weakened position, as the team keeps improving. This improvement is clearly based on a multiplicity of factors raised earlier in this thread. Are there any winners in this theological debate? The jury is out ...... but really who gives a **** as long as Manly keeps winning. Go Manly. Manly to beat the new Silvertails in the West by 7.

I missed that memo lol. I know we have some great kids coming through and yes Sch and Guac are two really good ones... but I also understand it is no good rushing young players and then destroying them for good because they weren't ready. So many instances of teen sensations that flame out very quickly. Look at young Hoppa - he was the next thing according to many on here - a couple of A Grade games later and he sounds like he is really struggling at Canberra and we have not seen him anywhere near First Grade

I do not see the relevance of this post to what my post was saying.

I made lots of posts hoping to see Boyle Jetski Siro and Suli dropped. They were playing terribly. Walker at full back was poor. You can see just how much a defensive structure can change when you have some one at the back who knows how to organise the troops. When your at brookie.. you can hear everything.. i remember Snake being so vocal organising the defence. It is understated. A centre whos never played full back before will not just learn it on the job. It was a ridiculous decision and hope that during Origin it is not Walker at full back again.

Just because they were blooded earlier.. who cares.. Why were they not playing this year? all the more reason to throw them in.. they are not on debuts.. Was clear to most that they were ready to play. Sipley Guacamole Shuster all big parts of our forward back and were rotting in reserves for the plodders mentioned above. Des got lucky with injuries.

Not to say that i dont back Des. I do but most were calling for these players earlier.

I still have my doubts about Parker.. against good sides he can be exposed in defence and attack. Same with Garrick. They have improved since Turbo returned. Much better than the first four rounds.

Like said previously.. there are counter arguments to everything. Not everyone will agree. Simple as that. The 'doubters' were calling for these players.. the media always say its Turbo that turned it around himself.. but the inclusion of 3-4 decent forwards helps too.

In round 1 we had the following:

Walker at full back.
Suli at centre.
Jetski and Siro in second row
Funa on the bench and Boyle on the bench.

I would not want any of them back in the side. They should not have been picked for round 1. Say what you want about anybody else but to me that is 6 of 17 selection mistakes and he kept it for 4 rounds until we got lucky with injuries.

NO NO NO NO NO.

everything you say above can be countered by reason.

Walker hasn't been a full time centre in how many years? He has played FB in the past and while his time there wasn't great it coincided with a lot of other things going on.

New Halves Pairing. It doesn't matter that they were a successful pairing 7 years ago. still takes time to gel.
New players bedding in.
New defensive pattern to learn.
Playing 3 of the hottest sides in 2021.
No Tommy.

Harper could have been given a run sure but younger guys with less FG experience can really suffer if they get some big sustained floggings.

Koula is a talent sure but again throwing a Lamb into the fire may not be what's best for him or his development.

Look at the Broncos. what was the young fullback called? Tesi Nui was it? he was supposed to be the next superstar and was dropped into their underperforming side only to be dropped a few weeks later. Hardly seen him since.

Just throwing in Youth isn't always the answer as so many sides have shown languishing at the bottom of the table.

And on a side note I notice not a lot has been said about the next big thing Albert Hoppa lately? wasn't he one of the gun players you lot were salivating over all last year? he got a run in that end. how did that work out?
Hopoate is injured at the moment. Has been for a few weeks. Not all youth talents fail and not all succeed. Just because one fails.. you stop debuting talented kids? How did Ponga go? what about Walker? or Walsh at the warrirors? Its a risk but one worth taking rather than throwing in Walker at full back who has no idea how to play the position. Koula has at least played full back week in week out in his youth. You cant just learn a position. Our defence was awful due to the lack of organisation at the back. Should have at least been played there in the trial.

I never mentioned anything about the halves. Happy to play Foran and DCE. Personally i wanted Shuster at lock but second row turned out quite good anyway. Anyway regardless.. im glad the injuries occured and Des played the correct players. I just hope he doesnt re introduce Walker Suli Siro too quickly... make them earn it via Blacktown

-Curtis has played one game this year.
-Boyle has played two games this year.
-Haumole got injured playing for Blacktown in Round one.
-Suli got injured in Round three.
-I'm happy Suli is on the bench. His first-grade experience sure comes in handy with all the "lucky" injuries we have right now.
-Turbo was out for the first five rounds.
-Dylan Walker is a premiership-winning representative player. I'm looking forward to him coming back.
-Sironen would sure be handy right now. He's a great edge defender, and I reckon his attack will improve out of sight with Turbo in the side.
-Who is the standout fullback you would have chosen to fill in over those first five weeks?

We all see things differently.

The Warriors have won one and lost two since Walsh debuted. His defense has been exposed several times during that period. Koula was not the answer during those first four rounds. No coach in the NRL would have chosen Koula over Walker at the start of this season.

It took Turbo a couple of seasons to learn how to organise the defence. Think back - or just dig up a few historical posts and it will become apparent.

Is Koula better than Tom?

Yeah we do. Would you want to see the Round 1 team picked again with Turbo at full back? so Jetski back in for Guacamole. Siro back in for Shuster. Suli over Harper. Boyle instead of Sipley?

Why not Harper then? Garrick or Funa who have both played reasonably at full back last season. Trying Walker was a very badly failed experiment. Whilst also weakening the centre position. If you cannot understand that.. then we just leave it at that.

Garrick was abysmal when he played at FB last season. It was a grain wreck. However, he's done quite well when playing there this season.

Wasnt worse than Walker ! Again.. Funa... Harper (who he played in the trial and played quite well). It is what it is... I just hope its not Walker during Origin.

Yeah, we do. Would you want to see the Round 1 team picked again with Turbo at full back? So Jetski back in for Guacamole. Siro back in for Shuster. Suli over Harper. Boyle instead of Sipley?
I want Siro back, yes - for sure. I believe he will return with a bang.

Snake posted in round one that Haumole was very close to being a regular in first-grade. Des wanted to give him a run in NSW Cup first.

Sipley is an excellent inclusion now that he has built up some match fitness. All hail the NSW Cup.

Boyle is now in a similar position to where Sipley was - no games under his belt. He'll be forced to come back through NSW Cup. At least he has the opportunity to do so this year.
