Why fans aren't Coaches ...

I
In an idle moment this morning ... listening to all raps for our players ... and generally basking in the praise from all at the table of humble pie ... I thought of the wisdom of Silvertails ... and some of the notions expressed over the past few years ...

1) ... Piss Croker off he will never be a first grader ...
2) ....Tear up Fainu's contract ... we don't need a grub like that at the club ...
3) ... Piss Parker off he is useless ....
4) .... Jorge is fukken gone .... get rid of him .... waste of space ..
5) ... Suli is a fat lazy boy .. too slow ... waste of cap space ....
6) .. Tear up Walkers contract ...
7) ... AFB is a plodder ...
8) ... Why did we buy Elliot he offers nothing ...
9) ... Who is Garrick ... couldn't make a StGeorge top 30 ... bring in Anderson ...
10) ... Let Kapow go if the bastard wants to go ...

I am sure there were more pearls of wisdom ... but my mind wanders ...
What’s your point? If we had got rid of those guys as pointed out by us knowledgeable fans we’d probably be in the top 2 right now instead of languishing back in 5th spot.

Yeah ... but coaches are aking their decisions without the benefit of it .....

I thought there was some ability to coach well and got 4-5 years straight with the local 10's to 15's....but the results were ordinary and I had a decent squad too....about as good as my last footy comeback in 2008, in the local bush footy reserve grade....the head was confident, but a pretty pathetic performance all round let me confess.....

While I never made any of those comments Woodsie, it just demonstrates what a good coach can do to turn things around by managing players.

TB is apparently a nice guy and therein lies the problem with his coaching, as Morris is finding out at Cronulla.

Des is a strict task master and has the respect of all (or at least most) of the players and they clearly know what he wants and expects of them.

Some of the past comments about players from last year may be somewhat accurate as to how they performed last year. There seemed to be a distinct level of apathy last year and that’s why Marty may have been pissed off and some players performed below par.

The supposed booze sessions last year to build team harmony are somewhat good for mateship but won’t necessarily win football games. Des knows that and runs a tight and very accountable player performance programme where he distances himself and is a wonderful man manager.

Take Suli as an example, he looks like he is loving his football of late and his stats support it.

Sirro is playing with much more confidence and is the leader in offloads.

AFB has gone to another level.

Parker has improved out of sight.

When in past years did Jorge ever put in hits like he does now?

Fainu is playing well above what he did last year and with extreme confidence.

Every player is playing above expectation except the Turbos and DCE who just do it it week in and week out, but with the added support of others the team is exceeding all expectations and everyone is contributing as opposed to last year.

Good post , well said .
Some qualified coaches can also make as big fck ups as us mere fans .
One of many Examples from the qualified experts was the the coaching staff at the dogs released our next Immortal Thurston because he was not good enough for NRL level .

Maybe we can start a new thread on here for the clubs that released players that were lingering in their lower grades that became stars in other teams and there were many
I stand Corrected .......
The future Immortal was knocked back by more than one clubs qualified coaching staff . The dogs were not the only ones according to Thurston on NRL .com

Thurston ...
JT has spoken about this and how it was a great motivator for him as a lad. You get told that enough times and you don't forget. When you get told that you aren't wanted by so many NRL clubs at once you've got to keep going and be patient. Johnathan knew he could play the game and he kept backing himself. (end quote )

Every one in every field fcks up and the higher ones stature the bigger the fck up ......
This is another classic fck up by one major record company in the 60s where they turned down my favourite band and the most succesfull band in history The Beatles

Lets not forget about poor Alan Bond .

The moral of the story
Every human has an error in him regardless his stature

Every human except the Incomparable Immortal who has never failed as others have failed him

Let us all pause from what ever we are doing at this very moment and toast to the one and only Incomparable Immortal Robert Fulton !

But if you did a duds list of Coach signings you would have an equally long list

Scott Fulton , Nate Myles ... Kasiano by Scumos, Bryce Cartwright by Titans etc :tmi:

Fans and Coaches are fallible whilst some players are just not into footy 100% once their contract ink has dried 😕

There is alot of truth and wisdom in what you say .... it goes to one of the points I have always made ... and that is so many factors have to go well for a team to perform consistently at their best .... and nothing points that out more than teams flogging teams one week ... and then "not turning up" the next week .... and it happens to ALL teams and even the good coaches ....

Injuries, off field dramas, salary cap penalties, front office dysfunction. whiteant players. court cases ref's all impact to differing degrees .... One of the things of being a fan tends to be we look at a point in isolation ... and then build a case around it ...

Jack Gibson always maintained he would take a lucky player over a good one for example ....

Too right Woodsie. Des saw how the intensity dropped off after he took Jake off and then within 10 minutes Jake was back on.

The team went to sleep in the last 20 minutes on Sunday and won’t be able to do that against the Storm. Jake seems to be the ‘motivator’ in the team, leading by example and it was a classic case of Des man management. While he wanted Jake to rest it became a case of a “Get him back on the field” situation and Des read it well.

Top coaches can have the money for the crap thay need to swallow. Can you imagine having to 'look after 30+ players' from young green guys to hardened men who have all been told how good they are all their lives. While respect is o obviously a big part some players will always feel they are bigger than the whole.... look at fafita at the sharks right now. Whispers are shes a really bad influence on the side. Managing guys like that must be horrible.

What about all the posts about “look out for this kid he was a good in the lower grades”

Cough, cough Blake Leary anyone??
While I agree 100% with you...I would more say a Luke Dorn type, as Leary came from Qld Cup, though he was contracted to both Nth Qld and Storm.
Same story though, as many of the best players who make poor choices or simply lack the want, will never go as far as that decent potential player with massive desire and great attitude.

DÓH!! ... that may have been me @:(

Lol, but wasn't he doing ok until Willie mason broke his back by jumping on it in a try celebration gone wrong? Maybe that took a bit of potential off him.

Edit, though he was a journeyman no doubt. Wiki says he is in france atm.
