Manly have the problem of lacking consistency and power game in their forward pack. This combined with salary problems of paying Schuster 800k and aloai 600k has left the club in trouble. A solution to this would be selling the 2 at a reasonable price for a combination of players that would contribute to the club.

Manly should sell Schuster to Dragons for
  • Schuster wants to play five eight and can't play that here at Manly
  • Schuster can't run a tough inside line like backrowers are suppose to
  • Dragons are lacking creativity in their attack
  • Dragons are lacking halves with only Hunt and Amone (backup half quality)
  • Manly have Ben Turbo who's position is back row and is a growing as a player
  • Shane Flannagan has coached Schuster previously this year so there is connections
  • 450k is reasonable as starting five eight or backrow as he has all the potential
  • Manly will pay the remaining 350k
Manly should sell Aloai to Melbourne storm for 450k, reasons for;
  • At Manly when we full strength he is not in starting team. (See below)
  • He fits the Melbourne culture of hard working and tough
  • Melbourne are lacking front rowers with energy and aggression with ageing forwards especially after loosing bromich brothers and kafusi last year
  • Can really excel under Craig Bellamy for only 450k
  • Has too many errors in his game currently and isn't worth his price
  • Manly will pay remaining 150k

Who Manly should purchase

Manly should purchase Ryan Matterson from Parramatta by enforcing a deal that will create a disconnection with the club and granted a leave

Reasons for purchasing Ryan Matterson to Manly for 700K;
  • Matterson is currently a bench player at Parramatta behind Hopgood at starting lock - he will be entitled starting lock at Manly
  • He will receive a wage increase of 100k from 600k to 700k a season
  • His style of footy suits the Manly style of expansive footy
  • Matterson at lock allows Jake to play Front row as he is loosing his acceleration and attacking threat as he ages
  • He gets to play with his brother at the club
  • He would rather take a 3 game suspension at Parramatta instead of a fine revealing a fracture already in the club for him
  • Him signing to the club actually promotes his brothers position in the pecking order (seen below)
Reasons for purchasing Tepai Moeroa to Manly for 200k;
  • Currently off contract for the 2024 season
  • Provides great depth for Front row rotation for the season
  • Has played under the Storm system so physically and mentally strong
  • Won't be asking for much as currently off contract bench forward with no interest from other clubs
  • If Manly signed tuilangi for 200-250k a season for a starting back rower we can sign Moeroa for 200k
Starting pack without changes
8. Paseka
9. Croker
10. Lodge
11. Olaka'ata
12. Schuster
13. Jake

14. Gordy
15. Twall
16. Sipley
17. Burbo

Front row cover - Bullemor, Aloia, James
Second row cover - Burbo start, Dean Matterson bench, Parker

Starting pack after changes
8. Paseka
9. Croker
10. Jake
11. Olakua'ata
12. Burbo
13. R. Matterson

14. Gordy
15. Twall
16. Lodge
17. D. Matterson (need backrow cover and backs cover during game)

Front row cover - Sipley, Bullemor, Moeroa, James
Back row cover - D. Matterson start, Parker, Bullemor

So although Manly have 1.4 million currently between Schuster and Aloai if we sell them both for 450k and pay out the rest of their contracts we have 900k to spend. That money can be used for the purchase of Ryan Matterson and Tempai Moeroa who will benefit the club more then the two we currently have for 500k less.

The deal is beneficial for all teams apart from Parramata who will be loosing a bench player that will free up cap space for their depleted outside backs.

Keen for the thoughts in the comments
We have a pretty good forwards. Injuries have cruelled us for quite a few years & we’ve rarely been able to play week after week with our strongest pack…..2024:
Paseka
Jrbo
Aloiai
Keppie?
Sipley
Lodge
Woods?
Olakau’atu
Bullemor
Brbo
Aitasi James ***
Matterson
Add one more mobile back rower**
Stay healthy & our backs can run wild. We are more than capable!

I don't subscribe to this. The Panthers got Garner performing, even Tuilagi showed what he could be capable of this year.

The problem with the Tigers is coming from the CEO down, not the quality of their players.
Respect your opinion. I am not saying that there are not any good players at the tigers. I am saying they should not be virtually our feeder club which seems the case now! 3 out of 4 new signings…
I agree they have administrative problems but it is the players on the field getting badly beaten on most weekends not the managers/ leadership… gee if quality of leadership…say at owner level was the key catalyst for performances…. I am sure some here would be saying we should be the ones getting the spoons. I.e. Penn’s leadership….

Well that's exactly the problem with our club. We have had all the pieces in place for successful tilts at the premiership except for the Penn family's terrible running of the club. We were a lot more successful when Delmege was the owner. Even the Quantum/Penn era was workable. But we have gone backwards as a club and consistently underperformed ever since the Penns took over.

Part of that might be coincidence, but the kind of lunacy that led to Tooves being sacked and Gutherson being released... that's a fish rotting from the head down.

I don’t think the rainbow 🌈 haters would accept Capewell in the side.
It was an honest mistake from Capewell. How was he to know, while minding his own business on a gay porn set, that if he stuck his knob through a hole in a partition (even if it was a partition he could easily see over), there'd be a bloke on the other side? What footy player wouldn't have done the same? You see a hole, you stick your dong in it. End of story.

Cate Kurpwell. Or if he was on the other side of the hole, Cate Slurpwell.

It reminds me a bit of a plotline in Series 3 of ‘Rescue Me’, now available on 7+. One of the younger firemen is getting hosings from his male roommate, but you know, he’s not gay. Then the other firemen find out…

Nice strategy and I agree Matterson would be a worthwhile addition. But for now Manly have gone all-in on Schu, for a while we might have contemplated cutting our losses but re-signing him (after signing Brooks) makes that clear.
also Aloia would be very hard to trade, I suspect we'd have to not merely subsidise, but pay nearly all of his hefty salary!!

Assuming this list is accurate we are short of props it will only get worse if Keppie goes without a like player in return.

Lodge would fill one spot but I can see Woods getting a start next season based on this

Actually Alioia as a13 could be worth looking at again and if he can hopefully be injury free going into next season .
Good leg drive and relative all round strength and seemed to go quite well in those early games against the Eels and Storm as a 13 and when Manly registered those good quality wins .
Probably would still have to maybe hone his link role there a bit better if it would be an option playing him there and then those endurance and fitness issues .
Only other worthwhile option previously might have been trying to develop Sam Fainu there , Bully maybe not so suited .
Don 't mind Matterson as a consideration still , maybe not be the most robust type 13 on offer but not a bad range of skills and ability .
Can only really hope again that Shu can revitalize his game again on an edge , if not , really going to miss Sam Fainu again as not sure Burbo can provide what is really required there over a full 80 , bench option however , can more then serve a purpose .
Anyway, quite possibly Jake may still be first consideration there [ 13 ] but again could be just worthwhile giving Alioia a shot there in the off season preparation and in the trials .

Interested to see if Burbo bulks up even more during the off season to try break more tackles. I noticed he that tends to try and run around players instead hitting a gap. That game where Shu put him thru to win the match being the exception that certainly stands out.

Any chance the Roosters would pay some freight to get Angus Crichton off their books now his rugby deal seems to have fallen over?
I may be wrong. But would think gor the type of money Angus may command we'd need an on and off field leader. Someone whose mental strength and determination can rub off on your mob. Having said that USwapping Angus for

That extra prop style lock is one of the things I'd love to see Seibold scrap. As a team we are so slow and not throwing enough at teams in so many ways. Jake as much as he defends great. At lock he's just slow by both ball and foot. If he was fit Lawton could be the man. If.

There is a middle ground where Bully starts at lock. Gives us a bit more lateral movement in defence and leg speed through the middle. Bring Schuster/GCKT on when the game slows down a bit. We need some sort of rotation that doesn't rely on Jake and/or Froggy playing 80.

Who do we bring in ?

I have said it before that every choice every person, business, club or country makes there will be consequences to it and some will be great and some catastrophic

We all must make smart choices on who to bring into our lives

We bring in people that assimilate to our cultures moral values and great ethical standards

Dumb people make dumb choices and the Dumb Australian Government has made its bed and now we all have to live with the crap that escalates over seas and is brought here to our great country of peace .
