When you know nothing...

Last night my wife and I went to a dinner function. I decided before hand I was not going to find out any updates of the Manly v Souths game; that I was going to come home and be surprised.

I wandered up to my office and tossed up between NRL.com or Silvertails.net to find out the score. I chose to cut right to the chase and find out the score on NRL.com, otherwise, I may have had to read all the player baggings first, and then try to figure out did we win or lose. 😀

It's a great feeling, not knowing anything of the game, and seeing on NRL.com the team won by 1 and a couple of Manly players hugging each other just below it.
And then to watch the highlights to realise we even won the seond half. 😱

Sometimes, it's better not knowing anything, and coming home to a nice surprise.

It was even worse for me. I was going into the city with my missus to see the Macquarie Lights (which were great) and I turned the radio off as we arrived with them converting their final try to make it 25-24. I had to make polite conversation, pretending not to listen and thought - "oh well, there goes another one." Imagine my surprise when I caught the 11 pm news on the radio to hear that we had won. Was superb.

i was at a 30th party trying to stream it on my laptop (in an area with sh*thouse reception).
would get the game every 5/6 minutes only for about 30 secs.
so i basically got score updates!
was taping it at home, so thought i way as well pack the laptop up.
but then in the 72nd minute of the game some bloke put his iphone on my wireless modem and i got perfect reception and caught the awesome finish!

would get the game every 5/6 minutes only for about 30 secs.
so i basically got score updates!

Now that's commitment. Taking a laptop to a birthday party on a Saturday night. lol

I was at my mates 21st Birthday party, there would have been atleas 30 people there, i had ploncked myself infront of the big screen for about 65 minutes (this included telling my girlfriend to go away when she approached me about sandow scoring souths last try, and my mates trying to drag me away,) 67th minute my girl drags me away because i wasnt socialising, i miss the last 13, i walk back out thinking we had lost and moping around the club with my beer when an old bloke walks up to me with a manly beanie on chanting manly, i ask did we lose it on the second half again, he kisses me on the cheak and tells me we won, that night i ended up drinking with till 4 in the morning, apparently we are travelling dwon to brookie together the next time we play there !!!!

.. not a bad one mate ..bit of a bummer you couldnt sit back & relax till the 78th lol..
i just hope they win when i visit brookie otherwise i will just blame it on me being there :🙂

I missed the game, was at an awards night at star city so spent a large chunk of it checking for score updates, especially the last 10 or so minutes.

haven't missed a game in 6 years, wasn't going to start now...lol!

Are you sure it wasn't just one of your pizzas that made him sick?  lol

Actually that's very funny, reminds me when my son was fairly young and I once saw how upset he got after a loss, I felt terribly guilty that I had infected him with my own over-the-top passion/hopes/emotional investment in supporting my team. I'm sure most of us here know that being a supporter can bouy or depress your whole week if you aren't careful, I guess for kids its better if they can keep things in perspective. Being in their own sporting team probably helps a bit that regard?

(My son's very quiet this year, he's a Bulldog supporter)  🙂
