I agree. Taufua is handy bringing the ball back, but his leg speed is gone. Wingers need height these days too.
Sad but true. I’ve always been a big fan, but he’s lost it. Too many injuries maybe. Still think he’d make a very good centre though.

I was at the game today and the Obvious things we need to fix!!!
Tom T needs to talk way more at the back.
Walker back to centre PLEASE
Parker gets NO game time in 2019
Suli needs to lose 5kg and get fit, same goes for Taufua.
Lane and Marty are both extremely lazy in defence, really sloppy in the middle.
We need 2 hard nut forward leaders, we have NO talk out there.
We need 2 speedy specialist wingers that can catch and create something from nothing.
We as a team need to work on fitness.
We need a specialist defencive coach.
One positive out of today i seen....
Chad Randall seems to have the makings if a great coach, in the warm up he was the one talking and pulling players aside. When Brisbane scored (which they did alot) again it was Randall showing some passion and trying to rev the boys up. Ni one else was talking at all, just heads down! I believe Cartwright as a man manager and Randall as the hands on coach may work BUT and its a big but, We need to get the right defencive coach to assist them.
Spot on Robbo.

He was the front runner mate until Manlys form dropped badly. That was the reason he missed out.
Although you like to discount his nrl-high missed tackle count, the meaning behind it is that he has sloppy attempts every now and again, and when he gets fatigued, always around the last 10 till half time, sometimes the last 20 of a match, and in these periods he completely lets down the middle and we become vulnerable. At the midpoint of the season we had the most points conceded directly up our middle, and with that you can't claim 'api holds it together' alongside the likes of Taupau and Afb, who on their own are too large a front row, but still are strong defenders of the middle.

Our roster is so weak apart from 8-10 players, probably in the bottom 4 in the NRL (maybe the worst for depth) , and needs to be rebuilt over a 3 or 4 year period.

We cant chase big names because we are a laughing stock and only fringe players will be interested. We cant chase budding stars unless they have baggage like Suli.

We need to adopt the Hawthorn/Hasler approach of recruiting a mixture of older players who can hold their own for a season or two and a few untried or injury prone players (like Siro).

Its a deep hole and its not going to be fixed in this off season or next. For starters Lane needs to be replaced and I cant even see that happening. We still need to replace Green and Crocker is not the answer.

The salary cap issues could keep us in the bottom 4 for a couple of years.

Most of all we need a plan.

Personally I think Bennett is the man best qualified by why would he even consider coming to the Penn Shambles. Maguire is the only other suitable option.

The dream would be Jason King CEO, Hasler and Toovey returning to the club in some capacity, maybe recruiting. Lyons, Menzies & Ballin coming on board of course Donny SInge back.

Thats it mate, hasler turned fringe players into very good 1st graders . Le'strange , Boxhead , Robbo the wolf and T Williams etc . This is the difference between say him and Barrett, Barrett can't get the best out of them . And the player's say they love the bloke .

But Hasler wont turn these blokes around.

Him and Cleal indentified players, like you mentioned and a dozen more.

The signing of Myles/Mason/Uate etc would never happen of their watch.

Unfortunately Cartwright as coach I don't see Manly improving much next year. Owners will be taking every single loss with joy by again having another outsider as coach. Until this changes I dont think we will ever be premiership contenders..

I'm not panicking with the players and recruitment. This year was always going to be a rebuilding phase. I saw some positives this year and i think next year we will be better for it.
Suli and Kelly are a solid center pairing. And will keep developing. Elgey should be the decent halves player we need. Tanginoa is a huge off the bench. Lane a big loss but if Sironen is fit next year then no drama there. Fainu is a handy young player.

But we really need some decent wingers. Parker, Wright and Taufua don't provide the speed and spark. Obviously that is our big problem. Surely there is a winger out there we can sign? From Super League maybe?

I am however worried about the state of the club and our future. Talk of relocation, lack of resources, board/owner drama etc has taken its toll on me this year.

Mate he is a great player, I honestly can't believe how much you dislike him. He was the best 9 in the game last year only behind Smith, this year the team struggled and he got injured a and dropped down the order. He is a great 9.

Recruit John Muggleton as our defence coach. Let him flog these soft pussy cats relentlessly in the off season. If we can defend well in 2019 it will more than compensate plenty of our short comings in attack.

Have to disagree. Suli are Kelly are the worst centre pairing in the comp.
Also, it's fine to list a strong top 17, which we had at the start of the season, but injuries play a huge part over the season. Our roster is nowhere near strong enough.
We were actually lucky our key players - DCE, the Turbos and Kapow - played the majority of matches.

It's why he was never truly considered for Origin
I am going to partially disagree on the question of whether Api is a sloppy defender. Yes, he is definitely capable of missing tackles, but I tend to think he is a victim of his own enthusiasm and drive...if you look at the ones he misses...nobody else would even try to make them in the first place. He's generally just made three in a row, and goes from lying on his back in the ruck to trying to tackle a rampaging forward in one movement - often getting close but missing. If somebody is running at him once he's set, then he always gets his man...and often drives back much bigger individuals.

Perhaps we simply look within for the wing spots. Jade Anderson and Tom Wright would add speed. Jade being a fullback should be reasonably safe under bombs. They also have great footwork to go with the speed. Developing these two also provides more depth for fullback and centre cover. They have to come through sooner than later or that great under 20’s GF win will count for nothing.

Lest face it our backs were torn to pieces in defence constantly displaying very poor reads leaving outside me stranded with overlaps. Occasionally rushing up and shutting down the play is no compensation for defensive errors of that frequency and magnitude. You never run backwards in defence and the number of times Iv'e seen our backs backpedaling in defence is alarming and it is no surprise we had coceded the most points in the NRL this year.
