Ive been following league since the early seventies and i cant ever remember the quality being this bad.The fans are losing faith in the system and the game is rotting from the inside out and last night was another example.
Imagine another 12 years of News Ltd running the show just like they were supposed to be in it till. They will forever be known as the main contrbutor to bringing the game to this level. The scurge and leech of the working class game.
So many people look forward to the league each season cause it is one of the few joys of their lives.Hang your head in shame News Ltd.Youve been branded a disgrace.

The standard of refereeing is atrocious and the interpretation of the rules has lost touch with the whole ethos of the game. It's supposed to a physical contest, where endurance and toughness are rewarded....they have turned it into glorified touch footy with 17 clones a side who get plenty of rest time. The modern day footballer is equally at home as an outside back or a forward, the only specialists spots are halves and hooker, which are indistinguishable a lot of the time anyway. The around the legs tackle has virtually been legislated out of the game because you will be either pinged for a leg pull or be offside if you even attempt to get back to marker such is the speed at which players are allowed to play the ball. Ball security is non existant, in fact you are rewarded for being lazy in this area. I'm not sure where they are headed with the game, but it's lost its way IMO. The proliferation of gambling sponsorship of the game is another blight. How ironic is the sponsorship by SportsTab or Centrebet or whoever, when the results of so many games are influenced by incompetent officials....who in their right mind would bet big on the NRL when the result is so easily influenced by a moron in a pink shirt ?

Hopefully this independant commission will get some true Rugby League people invloved in the game and get the game moving forward.

Agree Agree Agree. Good post C&C, you hit the nail on the head.

The ball security issue is an absolute joke, the ball carrier has to have some responsibility to hold onto the thing.
The ruck is also policed a little inconsistently for mine. Bring back the rake law and force players to look after the ball.

Remember last year when the refs chatted MoiMoi and Dane Laurie when they were going for big shots and generally firing up aganist each other! All legal and bloody great stuff, but oh no we can't have that, Mums won't let there kids play blah blah etc etc but it's ok for Joey to take drugs and be a racist. Give me the good ol days, the hard men like Gibbs,Randall,Eadie etc.

Totally agree with everything said. The referee has so much power to change a match that I seriously wonder if the plethora of gambling is a factor.
NRL and other sports have sold themselves out to betting agencies. Gambling representatives are now media personalities. They are on every sports show, and during the commentary you hear that XYZ player was paying $21 for that try... followed by an endorsement along the lines: "gee, I wish I'd had some money on him..."

A lot of the problems have come about since the introduction of technology in my opinion.  Wasn't it meant to eliminate all the errors and blunders?  Lets bring it back to the days before the video ref and two refs.

Bring it back to the one ref, after monday nights shocker we sure as hell ain't gonna miss the technology.
