ARU withdraws Gasnier offer

THE Australian Rugby Union has withdrawn its offer to St George-Illawarra rugby league star Mark Gasnier.

Gasnier had been given a deadline of 3pm today to accept the ARU's offer to switch codes.

The offer was believed to be worth around $450,000 a year plus incentives.

"The offer has been withdrawn," an ARU spokesman said this afternoon.

Obviously the PR people in RU are a bit smarter than League. They can't be seen to be dictated to by Gasnier, nor should they.

He has had months to think about his decision, problem is he is dumb as dog-**** and needs someone to tell him what to do. It is nothing more than a power play between the ARU and his manager.

A shame as I'd love to see the Wallabies smash the All Blacks et al - and he'd certainly help. But he's stuffing them around & I think they've made the right decision.

Increases the likelihood of Manly signing Lyon.
