Uate....what is going on?

That makes sense to use there strengths to attack Manlys weakness, but I reckon they will attempt to use Boyd, Paula and the big boppers through the middle first, after watching Souths dominate so easily up front last week.
As for Uate....please have faith in your inside men and stop coming in, giving your opposition winger a saloon passage to the try line...

My god, there were at least 4 tries in that corner with Uate coming in again and again. Was painful to watch compared to last year when he'd hold his edge better than most. Surely he'll improve once Walker is back...

Again I watched the replay of the Souths match and noted the following

Manly were certainly off their game and Souths showed great enthusiasm. But what brought Manly undone was the amount of mistakes they made, dropping the ball etc. Add to that a few amazing ref decisions like the try awarded after Tom T was tackled catching the ball and still off the ground from a jump. How the video ref came to that conclusion leaves me totally stunned.

But the most serious problem we had was lack of pace in the backline. Their backline was running us around in circles. We only had Tom T and Kelly who could be recognised as speedsters out there. Uate was coming in consistently because he obviously lacked confidence in the inside players, and ended up out of position four times when tries were scored on his wing. Souths recognised the problem early and most of their attack was towards that wing. I commended Parker for a good game, but though he was outstanding in some respects, he was noticeably too slow to cover ground. He and Uate are pedestrian pace. And now Barrett has Matt Wright back to replace Taufua, further slowing down the three quarters.

Barrett needs to take the risk that he began to take against Parra. He needs to bite the bullet, get Hasting in at 5/8 and get speedsters Tom Wright and Anderson on the wings. Some of our forwards are faster than some of our backline. I'd even have Tom Wright in centre and move Parker to the wing. Tom sets play up well, something Parker lacks, but Parker may be a solid option returning the ball, catching the ball, defending the line and finishing off play set up for him.

It’ll be Matt wright defending rapanas side. Uate will be defending against cotric. If there was ever a week to blood Tom wright or Anderson this probably wouldn’t be it. those two are dangerous. I feel like we have them in the forwards. We will tear them to shreds in the ruck if our second rowers can stiffen up our attack enough that their wingers don’t see quality ball.

I fear this is an attempt to play it safe again, which Barrett tends to overdo, when I suspect risk is needed to spark this side back into action. Uate is pretty fast he just makes average defensive reads. Probably more the inside defenders fault. Matt wright is a plodder and I’d way prefer Tom wright in for him but it’s a scary proposition making your debut marking Rapana. Could destroy his confidence real fast. Agree though. Throw him in the deep end. Makes for better entertainment anyway

Hopefully it’s just a case of missing his buddy walker.. the whole team say walkers the energiser bunny that rallies the boys together at training etc
Uate probably feeds off that, they’re as close off the field as they are on it. I wouldn’t ‘drop’ his confidence before Dylan makes his comeback as that would cause too much shuffling.
It does cross my mind that Uate might have a habit of getting comfy and enjoying the ride too much once he feels a sense of belonging like he did in Newcastle once he felt the rep scene hade made him a locked in 1st grader. But he’s so humble in nature I’m sure he’s grateful and just missing Walker

No winger runs around Uate, he simply has a bad defensive read and a lack of trust for his inside defender.
What Uate needs to do is bring his playing boots and get more involved hitting the ball up, to get the team on the front foot, especially with Taufua out.
Wright is slow, but experienced and will get it done imo.....with 2 easy tries from CLOSE range.

Agree that Uate has done poorly but let's not rule him out just yet. That's what everyone said when he signed with us and he surprised us all last year.

Mate I hope so but I don’t think as a professional footballer you can blame a team mates absense. If uate needs the dally m center of the year inside him to have a go, I wish him all the best in the esl next year! His stats so far have been really poor, needs to have a crack IMO.

Im peeved at Uate for coming in all the time too. But i thk because it was mr Greg Ingles running at Parker that had him questioning himself and Parker. He should have learnt after the first try thou.

There was a reason Newcastle had him in the Reggies last year. If he was only 22, I could see that like Sironen and a couple of other youngsters manly bought, sometimes it just takes a new start and a good coach to get the best out of them.

But Uate is 30 and is not the speedster and steamroller he once was. Speed tends to be the first thing lost with age. He rose brilliantly last year with the opportunity and he may rise again. He has been one of the finest wing men of his age.

But Manly seriously needs to look to the future. They have two young players in the Reggies who are race horses and quite talented. They both know how to make a break, score a try, tackle and catch a ball. Time to bring them on. Of course I'm referring to Anderson and Tom W.
