Uate a Massive loss

The impact of Uate - especially those early carries to give momentum was really missed.
Not pretending it was the main reason for the loss as defence was poor and energy down from recent form.
The fact is....we were beaten badly in the middle third by a big, strong pack and by Uate adding more push through the line- our forwards are rewarded off the back of this to create a roll on and a more direct dynamic in attack. Due to lack of go forward, Manly lost shape and played sideways lacking any real penetration.

We have no depth when we have to run on Matt Wright with a bung knee as his replacement
I disagree somewhat.

Firstly, Matt Wright was pretty solid yesterday and comparatively better than most of his more fancied team mates.

Secondly, you look at all the other teams, take out a key winger and bring in a replacement... and see what the reality is. Most teams are lucky to have 2 decent solid wingers to start with, let alone anything flash to back up the top 2.

Not sure you can claim that given Uate pulled out last minute.

I was more of a who can possibly play and get through 2 games in a row.

Did ok considering he played a game in reggies however we are in serious trouble if he plays more than a handful of games this season

Surely Brad Parker must be due back sometime soon.

I looked on the club's website......no news about injuries and when the player is due back.

Unless I can't find it....which is entirely possible.

As good as things have been with Barrett lately, I personally think he made a wrong call yesterday.

Sure Wright was solid, but while it might not have changed the outcome I would have played him from the bench, moved Kelly to the wing and started Brown in the centres.

Though in saying that I can understand him putting Wright on Uate's wing as it was less overall disruption to the backline that had been working well.

I think we're in trouble when a winger is out and the whole team misses them...especially one who spent most of last year in reserve grade. If he is the difference between winning and losing then we might as well give up.

I am not saying he wouldn't have added some thrust from the back but he wouldn't have changed much for us yesterday...the forwards stood back and watched and the whole side was lethargic from the get go. Yes, that first try maybe should have been called back but DCE didn't look that stressed to get to the play-the-ball, he was more worried about pushing Nightingale...we got what we deserved yesterday.

Who would have thought a thread about missing Uate was going to be possible this time last year!?
Let's just appreciate the fact that he's back in the form we hoped he could rediscover and that he didn't suffer a long term injury. For wright to play his second match of the day is a solid effort but given better notice we would of had a fresh back up player instead.
Lussick will be better for having his first hit out and the team will recalibrate for next week. Let's keep hope the boys react to that 'effort', I'm sure they prefer that winning feeling they got a taste of the previous couple of weeks

Listed at centre in the 20's team

Didn't see the game so can't be sure he played

As much as I hate to say it, a better choice might have been to play Wright from the bench, start Brown in the centres and play Kelly on the wing. At least Brown was fresh.

I hope the Darcy Lussick we see emerge over the next few games is the same one we saw last year from the time his mum died until he got injured. That Darcy Lussick was a wrecking ball in attack and wasn't missing half the tackles he usually does because he wasn't rushing out of the line as much looking for a big hit. He looked like he had matured as a player while yesterday was back to his 2011 ways, including giving away silly penalties.

Losing Taupau for the next few weeks will be a bigger loss.

The likes of Myles, Lawrence etc are all going to have to lift again like they did against the Cowboys a few weeks back.

I think that Perrett is ready for another call up from what i have seen in reserve grade.
