Turning point OR simply weak opposition ?

Both NSW tries were from DCE not trusting his inside man in defense snd not sliding, and he put his outside men under pressure in attack with crap passes.

I hoped he was going to be better under Slater but their mitigation was to just not give DCE the ball until they wanted him to kick it or run it in a set play

So I unfortunately expect more of what we've seen this season

Spoken to several people locally about the game and all said that after Munster, DCE was the best on the park.

I would say Carrigan stood out as next best, but DCE had some great moments, but I do agree he makes some odd defensive choices that put pressure on his team mates and often, they lead to tries.

Turning point or no, there were a lot of things to like about the team.

Sure, there were some abysmally soft tries the Warriors let in to begin with (the first 3 tries from Manly were, as my old man said 'pathetically soft'), but those tries came off the back of determination. Marty's try from a tap'n'go standard was just plain weird, but how many guys did he have hanging off his coat-tails?

However in the 2nd half, the Warriors stepped it up a bit on their 1st half performance. Manly were up 26-0 and coulda cruised their way to 26-18 and a nervous nancy Alx, but as the warriors lifted, Manly absorbed it - and the Warriors didn't make it easy, and to be honest we didn't do ourselves any favours either.

So we let in a soft try, Warriors had momentum, and we then let in a REALLY soft try again..... except for Morgan Harper! That try-saver my friends was epic-level. Happened right in front of me. How the Actual F..k he pulled that off....regardless not long after Harper darted through the line to put Garrick over and it was the straw that broke the camels back.

Thats the thing - we bounced back, and we had a crap opponent sure, but we didn't do what we have done in previous games - let the opposition dictate the pace of play and drag us to their level (up or down). No Turbo, no DCE yet Schuster was fantastic - that boy's passes are so crisp, its like that first Sao from the pack.

Saab worries me tho - his def was plain awful; he defended that 2nd half right in front of me and was the obvious target. His Run-Metres figure was boosted by his intercept - sure that might be his role, but T8u on the other wing was frantic! His hit-ups have starch and his positioning is >Saab. Saab seemed to feed off Harper though - which confirms what I thought last season about those 2 having an on-field bond. Watch them - when Harper is on, Saab generally does Saab-ish things. If Harper is in a rut, Saab seems to go into his shell. Save some time in future - if Harper is outta form, drop Saab too.

Have we turned a corner, maybe? A solid win sure beats a marginal win, and both beat a loss. Fortress Brookie record stays intact, and we have Cowboys and Storm up next there to really test out that home-ground advantage. One thing is certain - No Turbo (and no Lawton now either I just read) so no cheat-codes to activate.

Sipley needs to start with Aloiai and to let Paseka know he is coming to take his spot in the team.
Like what Sipley and Aloiai are providing for us in the first 15 to 20min, full of running and intent. Having Paseka or Walks at first or second change will be immense for us in the upcoming games against the Cowboys and Melb.

Still waiting for young Koula to score his first try. He was a try scoring wizard in the juniors. I suspect once one is scored they will flow. And is Burbo back soon?

DCE is a great player but he’s defensive reads have been off for a while now. He needs start trusting defenders outside him.
Occasionally an overlap is created by clever skilful deceptive plays. But more often, it is down to tired or lackadaisical middles not coming across in cover swiftly enough. Whether wingers, or DCE, or Suli, Harper, etc, anyone on an edge faced with an overlap is in a very difficult position.

I don't study replays to work out who is at fault but my first impression is those sides with the best defence always have numbers rushing across to cover edge attacks. Is it extra energy? Enthusiasm? Awareness? Probably a mix of all 3, but most of the times our edge players have been exposed in recent years they haven't had the luxury of swarming cover coming to the rescue. It shouldn't be a luxury.

Speed is the Seed that young backs flourish from

We have found our Centre of excellence .

The Speedy Koula looks astonishing out in the clear

His lethal side steps and swerves are mesmerizing

His defence is sound and he is premiership winning bound

Speed Kills and Koula Thrills

Look iM happy to just enjoy the win…
But be real people.. just a few weeks ago the warriors lost to a sharks side that only has 11 players…that’s 13 on 11 and still couldn’t win… so I don’t think us flogging them is any real statement of our season going forward..
Same as this week… the tigers just sacked their coach because they are playing dreadfully…. So I’m EXPECTING manly to win this week… again, it won’t be some big statement of how great we are improving…

Beat the sharks…
Beat the roosters…
Beat the cowboys
Beat the eels…

Beat someone who isn’t a complete basket case and then ide be absolutely stoked to talk about how we’re building for the finals…
But for now… no.. we’re flogging the teams that it would be embarrassing NOT to beat, but still haven’t shown much when it comes to the 5-8 sides, let alone the top teams..
