Turning point OR simply weak opposition ?

A wins a win right, so the main thing from Saturday was collecting 2 points.
But there was more....though a weak opposition, you can't control who you play, you can omly control How you play.
Manly turned up.
There was extra oomph in defence and far quicker in every part of the game, including more support in attack and just more desire than most games in 2022, so mid way through the season, good to see.
On the flip side who would NZ team have beaten....if anyone ?
When the opposition fail to put pressure on and lack intensity, it allows a team to gain momentum and basically control the game , as Manly did.
I ask the opinions of fellow Silvertails was it just a poor opposition or have the Seaeagles turned a corner and ready to finish the 2022 season strongly and play finals footy ??

I think it was one of those games that we needed that came at the right time.
Yes, the opposition was poor ( were they any poorer than they have been?) but we did a lot right.
Garrick has been improving at fullback and his game the other night was great, he was even disappointed at missing a wide conversion attempt.
Sips started strongly and offloaded in traffic well.
Croker stepped up more in attack.
For those three especially it could just be the turning point needed.

But Keppie still did Keppie things.

It's like they thought, bugger this, no Chez or Tom, we'll all take on a bit more responsibility.

Wouldn't say we've turned a corner but another team performance like that against the Tiges can only help coming into the Cowboys and Storm games.

Our form hasn’t been too bad since the magic round disaster. Refs robbed us of a win against Parra, we were never going to beat Storm but we were at least up to the challenge in the first half and we put 44 on the Warriors. They may be an absolute basket case of a team but that’s a game we probably only win narrowly and unconvincingly a month or two ago.

There’s definitely some improvement there with some players like Croker, Sipley and even Harper but I still hope we bring the likes of Paseka and maybe Bullemor in for some extra punch. Schuster also needs to continue playing a bigger role as he offers more spark than anyone which we need without Tommy. Really hoping he doesn’t go back to being a 30 minute bench man once DCE is back.

I think we are showing signs of confidence.

I firmly believe we have a top 8 team - but we are out of form and low on self belief. I don't think we need a mass overhaul, or we lack big hitters. We have a really good team, and inexperienced backline that have some mental struggles with defence, and we have been ill-disciplined both with the ball (dropsies) and giving penalties.

What we need, some some good fortune, some confience, and some momentum.

I don't care how bad the opposition is..... couldn't give a flying xxxx. What matters to me is how we play, how many injuries we pick up, and our confidence levels.

Build on this, get a few more players back on deck (including DCE) and get through Origin with top 8 either within reach.

Have a look at our run home once we get past the Storm in a few weeks.... we play teams around us, and behind us. I still think 6th spot is possible for us if we can build on that win.

Feel free to bookmark this and hold it against me!

Why didn't they turn up the week before against Melb?

We haven't beaten a top 3 side in 3 years.

Let's see how we go in 2 weeks against Cowgirls and Melb.

Some here seem happy just beating bottom 8 teams. We should beat them every time we play them.

I am not happy we seem to have no idea against the top sides. Hopefully that will change as I for one want Manly competing for the title.

No mate, evidently the forwards have been reading our posts. I don't think I'll tell them my Silvertails name next time I'm at a function. It might get ugly from what I heard. I think a few are searching for me. Anyway we fired them up a bit

Its a tale of 2 seasons in one.

The waiting for Tom and 2021 half and now the let's get on with it half.

After the heroic effort of Turbo and others last year the beginning of this year was peppered with injuries and poor form. Sure the rules changed again which was a problem but Tom was never fit or even looked fit this year. What ever injury he was carrying never allowed him to push. Shoe missing was a bid issue and I would also say we have missed Parker at times with his hard runs and tough lines. Paseka going down always also a huge issue for us. Hell we had to play Gorge last week FFS.

Now for the second act. Turbo is gone. Shoe is back. Garrick knows he will be in the 1 for the rest of the season and combinations are starting to form. Koula is ready to break out. Hamole is a beast, I feel like Saab will start to kick on and the pack are starting to play like a pack.

We will make the 8 in about 6th I feel. Then let's see what we can do.

This week will be a good test. I know the Tigers aren't a finals team but they have a good game in them every now and then (e.g they actually beat Parra).

They also were able to score tries (and had a couple disallowed) with limited ball v Manly at Brookvale a few weeks back.

This game will tell us where we are at.
