Trump

I have to hope that I will be able to give Trump some credit re the middle east.

As we all know there have been too many false dawns but at least there is some progress appearing to happen. My only fear is that he will get more involved in it....

He'll be in charge of allocating contracts for rebuilding Gaza... great opportunity!

It’s good that we have this echo chamber to keep everyone up to date with what is being said over at CNN and MSNBC. Based on the most recent posts, they must be struggling to come up with the usual negative hit pieces to mask the positive developments in the Middle East. Poor things.

Without doubt it is a good start,Hamas will hand over around 20 live hostages and numerous dead.
Hamas wants at least 250 of the 11000 plus in Israeli jails(87 percent supposedly not charged or convicted),plus another bunch detained from the Gaza as unlawful combatants released.
Israel has not agreed to this yet, only to remove its troops back a little bit after their citizens are released.
It is a good start, but to get overly excited yet is premature,it is not like it is the first attempt at peace.

The "positive developments" in the middle east have taken everyone's eyes off what Trump is doing at home. If you think that is an accident... you underestimate Trump.

And I wonder why I say people on here post in bad faith
You’re absolutely right. Trump is on the verge of an historic peace deal in the US, and what do we see posted on here - something about Trump selling watches, something about right wing Christians, something about a Portland Frog, something about someone getting shot and something about Tylenol. The only acknowledgement of the Middle East deal came with an implication it was all to do with a Gaza land development and/or as a distraction from “what Trump is doing elsewhere”. Bad faith indeed.

sigh

look at my posts where i acknowledge it - like all things in the middle east I do think we should jump to peace prizes as there is a long long way to go but it is promising.

You know you can look at someone in not absolutes?

Well as you know there is a long history of Israel sitting down to talks, then continued land grabs, shootings etc so I have not much faith in Bibi holding the peace.

Do you honestly think a deal ever would have got done without the president?
No probably not.
My point is the US has massive leverage over Israel but allowed this to go on, with 1000s more killed, until Trump finally decided to tell N to pull his head in. At a time convenient to Trump.
Do I think it's good there's a ceasefire? Of course. Did trump play a part, yes of course although he hardly invented the peace plan,it's similar to the one Biden proposed.
A combination international pressures is probably the reason it's happening. Not least being the US increasingly isolated among its own allies on the issue.
Will it lead to lasting peace? almost certainly not, because I can't imagine Israel has agreed to allow Palestinians self rule.
Anyhow we will see.

Yep, all we can do is hope it actually works unlike the failed plan from Biden that you’ve mentioned 🤞

Look at this guy, trivialising everything else going on in the US as if what Trump's doing to his own people is nothing.

@lsz did post he hopes a peace deal is delivered and if it is he will be happy to give Trump credit. The other things you posted are more relevant to other posters in this instance.

This includes quite an extensive coverage of US media reactions to the peace announcement, for anyone interested. Seems Trump is getting more credit than you would imagine from reading this thread. I will once again leave you to your echo chamber.
