Trump

Thanks for that. I would say I’m not sure the objective of the Clean Energy Act was to help the working class. I do believe that is what the tariff changes were all about, and they were actual policy, not rhetoric. As I have said elsewhere, blue collar wages recently recorded their largest increase in over 60 years.
Def not the objective but one of the benefits.

I am of the belief that rather than recreate working class jobs we would be better off creating / training for new ones.

It is why way back when the first work for the dole programs were implemented I was keen to see some of the "train for the dole" programs to help people develop skills to get other work

Interesting post thanks h27
as for this:
Although not enough on its own, Patel's appointment tends to indicate a shift away from political independence of the FBI (at least publicly) in favour of loyalty.
Not to mention Hegseth and Bondi. And others
The appointment of unqualified loyalists - loyal not even to a political party but to an individual president - is unprecedented. Plenty of commentators talk as though this is a temporary aberration and normal transmission will soon resume in the US, i give them the 'optimistic' rating 🌈

My main point of confusion with those voting trump in order to do away with the elite is that now it’s more or less in the hands of the super-elite. eg. trump, musk (??), bezos, rumours of some tech leaders pulling some strings. People like Linda McMahon,RFK, the FBI guy and Hegseth would likely have their resumes tossed in the bin (and perhaps burned) if they’d applied for their roles at previous points in time.
As a student of history, you would know that this is the blueprint of how every Empire has fallen since the dawn of time.

This will be no different.

It seems you guys are all avid consumers of the same completely impartial media sources, so the apparent (no doubt unconscious) bias in your concerns about the Trump administration does surprise me somewhat. In the interest of a more open minded debate, may I pose the following for further research and consideration;

  • Re FBI/DOJ see Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe, Christopher Steele, James Comey, John Durham
  • Re appointees loyal to a president being “unprecedented”, google “Obama Loyalists”
  • Re globalisation, google “The collapse of Globalisation” or “Globalisation exacerbating inequality”
  • Re borders and illegal immigration google US Mexico illegal crossings 2025
  • Re elites/global power structures google WEF, Stakeholder Capitalism
  • Re democracy google “Biden health cover up” and/or “Biden autopen”

Funny how Biff doesn’t refute any of H2’s excellent points, rather he takes the path of accusing anyone who has opposing views of reading impartial sources & is crying “fake news”.

Sound familiar? 😂

I believe hegseth wanted to rename it from “department of defence” to “department of war”. He is far too sensitive, inexperienced and opinionated to be in the position he is in. He’s like an angsty teen. The only thing he’s good at is creating a toxic relationship between media and the sponge component of their fan base (MAGA)

Bondi is just a religious nut. She will manipulate her reality however she needs so long as people she doesn’t like stay in their ‘rightful place’

Hi Brookie, maybe another day I’ll have a deeper look through some research papers and get back on this. I do think there will be an extent of truth to each of these points. However, my prediction is that (as history suggests) the current rhetoric will greatly exaggerate these points to justify certain ideas / actions

Speaking for myself only, I do not watch the news from one source (I actually tend to only read about news). Prior to this I admittedly rarely read the news at all. Even if I don’t respect Fox News/sky news and the like, I do make sure to read through their pieces from time to time to try gauge a wider perspective on it all. Some things I picked up on: during the initial stock crash after that major Tariff announcement, Fox hid the stock counter and only returned it once the stock market started bouncing up again. Then during the presidential parade thing last week or so I noticed they added crowd cheering tracks, whereas in other videos online it’s quiet enough that you can hear the squeaking tanks.

I agree, there is bias on both sides. It takes critical thinking to be able to discern truth from fact, and to consider what the objectives may be behind particular narratives. I am a big fan of critical, independent thinking. Cheers,

Indeed.

Which is why it's remarkable that in all your posts on the topic I can't recall any that have been in any way critical of Trump. Despite his record of blatant racism, sexism, the fact he's a convicted felon and been found liable for sexual assault, the fact his supposed great quality as a businessman is belied by several bankruptcies, each one leaving many ordinary people severely out of pocket.

It makes me suspect you love him as an anti-woke crusader, and everything else is just nit-picking because 'all pollies are corrupt', or something. It also makes me disinclined to get into a back and forth with you, but it's interesting to follow some of the posts in this thread anyway.

I’ve called Trump a clownish buffoon multiple times on here. But let’s not let facts get in the way of the “narrative”. I actually prefer a debate around policies and actions, rather than the same tired old “Orange man bad” storylines, but I see that remains your preference. So be it.
