Trump

I don't really want to get involved with this ,and I will know doubt regret it and stir up a few, but anyways ,,,
I don't think Trumps victory came down to Kamal caring for They Them and Trump caring for You, as brilliant a slogan and message as that was. Nor was it about the immigrants eating the cats and dawgs 🙂
I think Kamala didn't do herself any favours with picking a weirdo like Walz to run with her ,she would have been better to pick the "gay " guy she dumped because she didn't think people would go for a gay person ,and so she picked Walz. That in itself is a great reason to doubt her ability to think at all and her decision making abilities in general

In addition the left in the govt in the US have persecuted Trump relentlessly (rightly or wrongly depending on your point of view) since he first decided to run in the 2016 campaign and then after he lost the 2020 election they kept at it with inspiration from J6th ,and then they turned it up a notch when he went for 2024.
I think a lot of the American public saw thru that and called it for it was --political persecution .
Something that happens in various counties in the world where political opponents are got rid of or disappeared.

Secondly the word felon is liberally used by the left when describing Trump when in fact the felony's were tant amount to book keeping errors, which is why they never left NY state as charges. Again the US public could see this over reach

Lastly the US exit form Afghanistan was peak US weakness on display ,and Americans were embarrassed at the images and the what 80B of kit left there
It was no coincidence that the likes of Xi and Putin all then rose to the occasion amping up the aggression and their campaigns to the point where we are now.
So imo the US public and the free world for that matter were pretty happy to see the back of Biden Harris ,Walz and the weak left in general and say hello to someone (with all his faults, baggage, self promoting, narcissism, egotism, sometimes quixotic behaviour, unpredictability ,volatility etc ) ,who said he would put America first, make the worlds agitators think twice and dare I say it make America great again. On that account the US citizens will make the final call.

But from where I sit I feel a lot safer that Trump is in office than what I would have with Kamala and Walz (god help us)
So 12 months in he is doing his best to bring an end to the Ukraine War (the success of which is still dubious to date ) and the middle east conflict .But whatever the success you cant say he is not trying his best to end both of those conflicts. He also claims to have finished off a few other wars.

His stealth bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities was just enough to let the likes of Iran and others know that you poke the US and its high tech military kit and personnel at your peril .
It was a bit like when Iran bombed the Al Asad US base in early 2020 killing some US personnel ,and for a moment the world wondered if it was the the beginning of WW3 ,when Trump then sent a surgical strike into an Iranian airbase killing know one but completely levelling the complex, after which he was reported to have said words to the effect "that's what I have done with 30 seconds notice ,your move Iran" .Despite claims to the contrary that Trump is a danger to the world ,so far he has proven imo to be an earnest peacemaker and cool headed tactician.
Although the jury is possibly still out on that with Putin.

His speech to the UN last night was typical Trump, scheduled to talk for 15 minutes he spoke for an hour + and called out the UN for the weak farce it is and all the weak western nations that have helped skittle the cease fire deals with Hamas with their faux recognition of a Palestine state and ,absolutely prosecuted the fallacy and scam that is climate change and the renewable energy hoax
with bullseye accuracy delivered in that highly entertaining Trump style .(which I must admit I like seeing being sent up by the various Trump impersonators on IG etc )
Anyways go Trump and Go Manly
I don't agree the US should be at war with Afghanistan, but last time I checked Trump was the one that decided to pull them out of there... Biden ultimately opted to commit to the withdrawal plan. Ironically, while hastily done this is one of the things I think was good action by Trump and later Biden.
"Last year, Trump negotiated an agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all U.S. forces by May 1 of 2021. That's less than two months away. Not represented in that agreement were members of the Afghan government. They're now negotiating with the Taliban. Meanwhile, President Biden, having inherited the Trump deal, faces some tough choices, as my guest, Dexter Filkins, explains in his new piece in The New Yorker. If Biden succeeds in pulling out troops, he will end a forever war. But with U.S. troops gone, civil war could flare up, the Taliban could take over and the war Americans fought could be deemed a failure."

As for why Trump is suddenly pushing to go back (to do ?) and criticising the decision to withdraw? I'm stumped... but fair to say it's absurd.

I don't want to come across too debatey here but not all of his crimes were book-keeping errors either. His full track record of cases are listed here. Date back to 70's - starting with discrimination cases against black renters. From 1980's he's been accused of 25 sexual assaults (not all were found to be just allegations either). From these cases, one includes the alleged rape of a 13 year old girl (1994, individual's identity was protected). Rape (and later defamation) of Jean Carrol is another:
"a jury found Trump was liable for sexually abusing Carroll and defaming her by falsely denying it, which impacted on her reputation.
Trump was not found liable for rape but rather for sexual abuse. However, when Trump later filed a countersuit against Carroll, the judge dismissed it and said Carroll’s rape accusation was “substantially true”. In total, Carroll was awarded $88 million in damages."

Accused of sexually assaulting a reporter (2005), the stormy daniels one, the 'grab them by the pussy' thing... and that's just a shortlist of his notable sexual assault incidents.

He defrauded students through Trump University (university determined to be a scam). Other unproven but concerning cases too such as Mueller's investigation (2016) that found some of Trump's associates colluded with Russia to interfere with the 2016 election campaign (Trump himself didn't end up with a conviction). Charged with trying to overturn Georgia election results, the capital riot case too.

On Palestine, I really don't want to delve too much into that (I can talk about it for days and will probably veer off into topics unrelated to this thread). I don't want to insult you in saying this, but I think you are currently quite misinformed / a little naive as to what's happened over the last 80 years in that region (modern day situation largely impacted by last 20-30). Here's an old video with Netanyahu as a starter. In it he also discusses how he sees the US being easily moved / easy to manipulate and thinks they won't oppose continued escalation.

I also am a bit taken back by the comment of countries being weak by calling out indiscriminate bombing of Gazans as a genocide (it's also now officially been classed as such). It can't possibly have been weak to out genocide by the Khmer Rouge (cambodia), Hutu militias (Rwanda genocide) and Nazis. Israel even bombed Hamas diplomatic negotiators in Qatar to shut down recent peace / diplomatic efforts. (this is a major theme over the duration of the conflict, particularly during Netanyahu's reign). I personally think it is much weaker to sit idly by and echo everything the US says when they are heavily influenced by AIPAC, religious narratives (rapture) and motives to keep the Middle East a destabilised mess. That said, US has flipped back and forth at different points in time, but they are currently doubling down.

If you are keen to look into the Israel-Palestine conflict (particularly from recent years) the below short documentary (30 min) shows the situation for Palestinian's under Israeli occupation in the West Bank. This predates oct 7, 2023 and touches on military settlements / displacement / violence / apartheid that's featured increasingly throughout the conflict. This one is actually by Sky News, believe it or not... Countless other documentaries that delve more into the full history post ww2-current; if you're interested let me know im happy to share them.
