Trial V Panthers

I'm not saying picked OVER him. At all. I've said a few times, a better mix of forwards. For example:

Caleb or Arthur lock (or even Caleb in the 12).
Jake 8 or bench (but don't then include all of Sipley, Brown, Tevaga, Taukeiaho, Lodge - and the other logs) - mix it up.

Every team needs a log or two. I shouldn't even use the term log, I should probably say lumbering power (post contact metre) type forward(s).
I agree with your sentiment. We need speed in our pack. But geeze I reckon Arthur is as slow as a wet week. Everything he does is at snails pace.

They have different traits. Look, we both love Jake okay. I'm just saying what most people think. Here's AI for example view taken from a very broad spectrum of supporters View attachment 29354
AI depends on the question you pose… this is what it told me about Jake…

all outcomes I would have played it off as just a trial. We win and win big, just a trial (quiet optimism), we lose, just a trial (nervous and it doesn’t quite add up) I’d have taken the former despite it being…. Just a trial

What was so evident in the game was our failure to control the ruck and play the ball speed, we were lapped in that space and the penalties and six agains conceded were a result of that.

Penrith play the same way all through their grades, they are very disciplined and strangle you through field position and their game plan is simple and so effective.

A touch of reality. Atkins made it hard for us letting Penrith move up early at the ruck and laying all over us and then flogging us in the penalties. But it did highlight that Penrith’s depth is much better than ours. I thought TKO and Bull were good but our backrowers were lame as were our starting centres.
The way I see it the teams that control the ruck generally get the rub of the decisions.

We need to be better and we will get the calls.

I'm still waiting for anyone to be able to explain the first penalty on Waddell, that then led to a couple more penalties and restarts, then their first try.

I know we need to "handle chaos" better, but fk me drunk that was a bludger of a penalty to start the rot.

As good as Hopoate is proving to be, we're still a much better team with Turbo at fullback.

The problem is, Lehi is too good to be left out or on the bench for 60-70 minutes, but who do you move for him??

Yeah agree 100%. Hoppa looks a bit small fo
2nd half when Bully and Sio were on we were rolling through them comfortably. We'll be ok

Aside from a few stupid penalties I really like the look of Sio will be a great addition to our pack. Great ball to set up the Bulls try.

It was a fking stripping penalty for two in the tackle, apparently… which was laughable. I know it’s only a trial, but couldn’t believe we didn’t challenge it. That swung the momentum and game right there.

We came out strong in the second half and dominated. Once the usual plethora of replacements occurred we were again clunky and Penrith again had the upper hand. All in all it was a very useful trial to gauge where improvements are needed and where some of our back up players are at. Most importantly from what I can gauge….no serious injuries. Onwards and upwards!

Should be mainly seen in the context of a trial but just couldn "t control the play sufficiently for extended periods apart from putting themselves under almost constant pressure .
Some questionable ref calls hardly helped but again, just could not settle down in general .
Certainly big minutes for Taukeiaho again but did good again . Bully impressive , not sure what Tevaga can offer as a 9 but Simpkin another pleasing effort there .
Shame that Arthur does not have a bit more to offer but excellent competitor and not slow over a longer distance if his chase on that Panthers winger is any guide .
Think that any expectation of Matterson cutting it as a i st grade 6 can be ruled out , Navale will get better , still has the makings of a solid middle .
Type of play hardly suited Garrick and Koula in the is t half but sure that they still have it in their respective positions
Wonder if Saab is ready to go for round one .
Lehi all class again but just not sure if Browny and Sips can bring some real benefit going forward or what is needed to give the i st grade a real boost
Think that Patolo again showed that he is capable of doing some real good things .
Ray Ray a human tank when the opportunity presents

From what I've seen over a couple of years Arthur, Matterson, Sipley, Waddell, Chee Kam , Schoup, Ray V are not 1st grade quality. They've been around long enough and seriously last night they were totally outclassed by a bunch of kids.

You are correct.
Pity Arthur has a poor kicking game because he is a real trier. A shift to lock, perhaps?
Pity Ray Vegas is so short, with flaky hands, because he is a powerhouse when he manages to catch the ball and I love his intensity.
What this trial showed is that we'll struggle in the NSW Cup again this season.

Yeah, take hoppa and Bully out of that team ...

Interested to see if Walsh gets a shot and makes a difference.

8. Paseka
9. Simpkin
10. Bullemor
11. Olakau'atu
12. Talau
13. Navale

14. Arthur
15. Aloiai
16. Taukeiaho
17. Jake

And we'd be much quicker
Sure for one side of the game - and watch us having to come out of goal line every set as we will have zero wrestle / ability to slow down the other teams or cover.
