Trade Period

The thread title is "trade week" not how much better one code does something better than another.

Can I comment on "trade week" and what I think about it without being accused of something else..

Your balls are not big enough for me to want to bet on..

Of course you can comment, as we all do. But at least apply a modicum of intelligence and context.

As for my balls, there are many that will disagree with you.

. I follow a lot of different sports around the world, and we are...let's say....bottom feeders when it comes to administration, marketing and professionalism. And if we don't start waking up and looking in the mirror, we are fukced as a football code.
It becomes glaringly obvious how poorly run we are when you watch other intl sports. I watch Baseball a bit some nba, and nfl and the way the clubs and leauges interact with their fans is so far ahead of the nrl its imbarassing for the nrl. Even the Swans are better at fan engagment than the nrl and im in qld ffs.

A draft is the first resort of the mediocre or incompetent ..... Stick a draft up ya clacker ...

Seems to work well for the AFL juniors?

As opposed to what?

The good ones get contracts .. the average go back to park football.

Are you suggesting that there are brilliantly talented young Rugby League players who can't get a run because we have no draft ....

There was an interesting discussion concerning the draft issue for the N R L just after i joined the Silver tail "s forum some months ago and i would still be quite adamant that it would not be suited to the present environment and culture for the N R L . It is still quite difficult for any N R L club to retain all of their preferred juniors and even in Manly"s case in recent times with guys like J W H , will Hoppa , Darcy and more from the club being enticed else where at specific times , so even with the present arrangement there still seems to be an inevitable distribution of younger N R L playing talent and not requiring a draft being imposed . Also especially in Manly "s case now with so many promising juniors with their successful 20 "s premiers , the club has done well to secure these juniors and really should not be penalized , as with any other club in a similar situation . Again also unless the outlook changes significantly , just one court action would torpedo any draft N R L arrangement , imposed or not .

No, but I’m suggesting to help evening out the comp a little the bottom teams get a crack at the most exciting youngsters, after say an initial 2 season contract they’d be then open game.

Really I’m just trying to figure a way out to stop clubs like the Rorters and Donkeys just Cherry Picking the best players all the bloody time!!

I’m not trying to be smart with this comment, more a question , if that’s the case why doesn’t that happen in the AFL?

No one could seriously imply that you were or try to make "smart " comments so to speak, Mark and in my case i was just making a general response and opinion again to this draft issue . Again i think that the T. P . A "s should be the main and real target and issue to address and improve for some fairness .

No doubt it’s an absolute Rort for the rich clubs.

I know that the Donkeys have around 3 Million from the Thoroughbreds , so that takes their “ cap” to 10.8 Million straight away.

A club like the Knights might only be able to muster up $200k.

Fair comp hey??

I guess that the real irony and maybe Karma is that when the Broncs were or seemed to be really rorting the system with these dodgy T P A "s and especially with their virtually all international pack over that period from and before the early 2000"'s or so , is that they only won two premierships, when in theory they should have been almost unbeatable . Well at least some justice there . I am not across all major sports situations but that thoroughbreds Bronco arrangement would nave to be one of the biggest and unfairest sports rorts that i have ever been aware of and how they got away with it , i just do not know .

That’s what a team one city club can do, just imagine if in Sydney there was say, the Rorters and us, you’d have companies and individual lining up to throw money at you.

The real Rort up here is that there’s just one team , there was two at one stage but the Donkeys just “ crushed them” ( pun intended).

What went on at the time was disgraceful, with the Donkeys underpinned by News Ltd.

It’s why not everyone up here is a Horsie fan, but don’t worry there’s still gazillions of them.
