I'd chase Cornish. We need a halfback more than a 5/8. He played pretty well last night for only a few games into his career

I agree.

I rate Cornish, watched him play in the 20s for a few years and always thought he would go onto great things.

But this Elgey kid looks really good, really unpredictable like a Keary type of player

Kane Elgey looks like a seriously talented player. Great ball runner and slick step and pass. Not sure about kicking game but has natural footy instincts which can't be taught from what I have seen. Get this kid ASAP

You can teach any player the basic fundamentals but you cant teach the natural ability and skills that he possesses

Wasnt he also named Holden Cup player of the year or in the team of the year?

If a player signs with another club before 30 June the incumbent club should automatically have an option (but not an obligation) to release them. They will probably introduce that after DCE has f***ed our season.

Yeah i agree with you 100%, we need a half not 2 5/8.

If Foz stays we could go for either Cornish or Elgey or both and make them compete for the spot.
They are both halfbacks.

If Foz leaves then we could try sign Sezer and him and Littlejohn can compete for the 6 jersey

Yet some still hammer him on here.

lol everyone has been talking about him as a 6. I just watched that video and he does play 7 a lot. Geez he has some speed!

Bozo I am not saying he is not talented - i just do not think a youtube highlight reel which is

1. Just a tick over 4 minutes long
2. Does not show how he defends
3. Is in the modern day version of touch footy (the youth comp is hardly built on defense)
4. I saw there was a 40/20 kick in there. Do we know if there was a gale force wind behind him? how many other times he went for one and did not pull it off? How many times he took the wrong option?

Is enough of a basis to "sign him up"

Does no one remember the Aaron Groom video from a few years ago? Looked amazing with the ball but it turned out he was just not up to first grade (apart from a few starts here and there)

It is stuff like that that places an unrealistic expectation on a young player by creating a false impression of his play.

My only concern is we need someone with a good long kicking game cause that isn't foz's strength. Based off that though with joey coaching him. He has really good vision and a great dummy. Its hard to teach someone to read a defence that quickly. It's instinct. I like him.

P.S. I'm saying kick the tyres and evaluate not throw the house at him

Just to be clear I am not debating the merits of his a player rather the rush to judgment based on very little information - kinda the same thing most fans get upset with when the media does the same...

You have made some good points there Isz . Last season Elgey was named Holden cup player of the year . So he is the best there is. I do remember Groom playing but this guy looks more impressive . I have also seen some Holden cup games last season and he seemed to be a solid defender as well

At the end of the day we do need someone to fill in that void. We dont have to sign him on the big bucks, we should offer him a decent increase to what he is already on with the promise of an opportunity and the rest is up to him and his abilities.

The last rookie halfback we took a chance with helped us win a premiership... what have we got to loose? besides theres not many specialist quality halfbacks out there that we can sign anyway

Then i trust your judgement more as you have actually seen the kid play - anyone else who bases it on the youtube vid is set for failure (and to be fair that video would have been made by his management team etc)
