TORONTO WOLFPACK 68 – 4 SHEFFIELD EAGLES
Toronto Wolfpack were crowned as the Betfred Championship League Leaders (basically champions) thanks to a comprehensive victory over Sheffield Eagles.
The 16th win in a row guarantees the Wolfpack top spot in the Championship league with three games to spare, and crucially a play off schedule of 4 home games in Toronto and 3 away games in the UK and/or France. The post game schedule will be confirmed in early August.
Hooray!
OK, so basically, the wolfpack play in the tier below super league, in what is called the championship league.
At the end of the regular season, the top four teams from the championship league combine with the bottom four teams of the super league. This makes eight teams (duh).
They play each other once - 7 games per team.
After that, the top three teams get to play in the super league next year! (This is what Toronto is aiming for)
The teams ranked 4th and 5th play each other in what is called the 'million dollar game'. The winner of that game also gets to play in the super league next year. That means 4 teams have earned their spots in super league.
The loser of that million dollar game (4th v 5th) joins the bottom three teams and play in the Championship league the next year.

I agree. They really need to keep focus and get promoted.
Some of the teams in the championship level are filled with part timers. It's not and even contest when coming up against the fully paid professionals from Toronto. I don't know how good the bottom four super league teams are but the consensus is that Toronto 'should' earn promotion if they don't get ahead of themselves and play good footy. I don't think anyone wants another year of 50+ point victories in the second tier.

The unbeaten streak goes on at Lamport Stadium as Toronto Wolfpack made it seven straight wins on home soil at the expense of Rochdale Hornets. A crowd of 7,144 attended the Den to honour the GTA’s Police and Fire Departments, as well as Paramedics and 911 Dispatchers in the team’s first annual First Responders Appreciation Game.
Toronto were unlucky to go down to twelve men in the first half as Darcy Lussick was harshly sin binned for a shoulder charge. Tempers flared after the forwards big hit in which it appeared he used his arms but the referee ruled otherwise to brandish the yellow card.

Toronto Wolfpack earned a hard earned victory over Halifax RLFC at the MBi Shay to kick-start their postseason Super 8s The Qualifers campaign.
Tries from Andy Ackers and Andrew Dixon as well as 2 conversions and a penalty from Gareth O’Brien’s boot ensured the Wolfpack head to Toronto for back-to-back home games with a valuable two points in their quest for promotion to the Super League for 2019.
The game was a tight contest throughout between the two sides who had ended the regular season with the two best defensive records in the Betfred Championship.
The Wolfpack were resilient in defense throughout, with Halifax failing to complete sets at key times. Offensively the Wolfpack created some good chances but failed to convert, notably during the opening exchanges as a Matty Russell was adjudged to have dropped the ball when grounding, before a Chase Stanley try called back for a forward pass in the build up. The two sides looked to be heading in scoreless at half time before some good work from Blake Wallace set up Andy Ackers to finish 5 minutes before the break. A Gareth O’Brien penalty gave the Wolfpack a light cushion mid way through the second half before Andrew Dixon went over with just 3 minutes to go to secure the win.
The game was marred by two injuries for the Wolfpack, with both Matty Russell and Liam Kay leaving the game during the first half.

The Wolfpack have not been shy about severing ties with players who misbehave.
