I thought Choco was one of our best in the Grand Final.  Matai played well.

If you want to consider Choc and Matai's indescretions to the level of Carney, then you have no idea whatsoever.

surely if hes not allowed to play in NRL we would be a good option for him.
We could sign him for 2010 and have him play this year for the Sunny Coast Seaeagle in the Q Cup.

It's all to do with the drink Cliffy.  Playing on with a busted neck and other assorted physical ailments would put Matai on my top shelf of dickheads.  Didn't hear the dtory about Carney's aggro with females either. Anyway, I guess you're right, pissing on someone's leg is truly a hanging offense.

Not that I would suggest Carney has a history of female-abuse or anything, but how many stories have you heard about Carney? Because by the time the Raiders finally gave up and decided to cut him loose, he'd racked up around 50 off-field indiscretions - and they are just the ones which made their way to the club. No doubt there were loads more which were kept quiet by a loving Canberra public who wanted to protect their star.

Choc and Matai have both had their brushes with the law, they don't hide from that, but to compare their rap sheets to that of a bloke like Carney....well, they are in different ball parks.

Carney's a top player though. I'd love to see him at Manly, I don't think Des/Crush would sign him if they didn't think they could straighten him out either, and they chased him very hard not too long ago.

I've made it pretty clear that I rate Pierce as well. Either would be a fantastic replacement for Ox down the track, although Carney is a 5/8 not a halfback.

Playing on with a busted neck, that's one of your gripes, DS?

I am sure the qualified doctors and club staff know what they're doing!

I was alluding to his playing on for NZ Cliffy, (I've already been down that  path and really don't want to stir the demons).

Because it would be so easy for him to stay out of trouble on the Sunshine Coast when he couldn't manage it in sterile Canberra.

The Roosters and Todd Carney have approached the NRL to get permission for Todd to play for the Roosters in 2009.

A mate who told me this last week (he is friends with someone high at the Roosters), Didn't believe it but there is a story in Wednesdays Telegraph about it. He also said that the Roosters believe Mitchell Pearce is all but a Sea Eagle come 2010 and wanted to tie up Carney.

The Rorters forward pack are getting incredibly long in the tooth.  Little wonder Pearce would want to play behind something a little more mobile.

With Fittler coming out and saying that Anasta will play lock and then suggesting that some 'ranga' 20 year old will get first dibs at 5/8, it now makes sense. Carney and Pearce in the halves would be quite interesting.

I nearly choked on my corn flakes when I heard the report this morning. I can't see how the NRL can register Carney, having said they wouldn't and also based on the refusal to do the same for Bird.

Interesting also to note that serial bad-boy Ngaima is also in trouble again and has been stood down pending an investigation (read waiting till it all blows over again.)

The rehabilitation program of the club i would only assume CW.

Anasta at lock is a perfect pos for him imho. Carney deserves a last chance even though he probably has had enough. And with carney at roosters it makes it more likely that pearce will join manly.

You're right there MB.  But I can't really see how the NRL can refuse Carney the right to earn a living playing NRL.  He wasn't sacked for an on-field discretion, rather a social one, that the Raiders felt was not in the image they wanted to have off their club players, like Cronulla did with Bird (both unfair in my opinion).  We've got our own troubled souls but don't sack them for social misdemeanors.  On the maybe Pearce signing, he is just not good enough and obviously the Roosters feel the same way or they would be stating that they want to keep him.  Carney plays with more go forward and I'd hate it if we get Peace for big bucks.  He really reminds me of luke Dorn because he plays a very similar game.  He is easily put of his game and gets run over way to often.  It's interesting how many points we put on the Roosters in our last two meetings.  That says it all for any of their players, especially their pivots.

Wasn't Carney threatened with deregistration though as he brought the whole game of Rugby League into dispute as well as his individual club. I am sure that he was told he had to have a year off over here. That's why he took his trip to Africa, to change his image and show signs of concern for others. I can't see how the League can change their mind, if I am correct in what their position was.
