The Gold Coast Titans are facing a $5000 fine after coach John Cartwright entered the video referee's box during Sunday's NRL match against Manly at Brookvale Oval.

The NRL has handed the club a breach notice, proposing a $5000 fine after Cartwright and Titans football manager Scott Sattler both approached video referee Steve Nash to question his awarding of a Sea Eagles try in the second minute.

NRL rules state that under no circumstances are match officials to be approached, questioned, or harassed in any way by club Officials either during or after a match.

The Titans, video ref Nash and the game's ground manager provided reports to the NRL over the incident.

"While there is no suggestion of abuse in this case, there are clear rules in relation to these areas and it is important that they are enforced," NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said.

The Titans have five working days to respond to the breach notice.
