Driving up the coast and I saw this bloke hitch hiking and thought that looks like Trent.
Must be trying to get to the Gold Coast to offer his services.

I just don't get how the Gold Coast are such an abject failure as an NRL area. How many goes have they had at it - 3 or 4 incarnations now ?? and it's still a basket case. They get a brand new state of the art stadium gifted to them, they have been bailed out and propped up by the NRL - what is the fascination with having a team based there ?? Maybe someone from up that way can offer an opinion but I struggle to see why they can't be competitive as seemingly they have so much going for them. 2 finals appearances in 12 years with the current set up, can't remember much more success from the Giants or Chargers apart from a 7"s win from memory.
Never in there history have they had owners who could afford it or a decent coach. Michael Searle also destroyed so much of the fan base by dudding so many local businesses. That bad taste is still felt in the community for the Titans.

For those that dismiss the value of a decent coach then you just have to look in our own back yard.I think all Manly fans can see what a bad coaching regime can have on a team. Barrett left a proud club like us on the verge of extinction. We were a total rabble just like them.
Henry was the closest they came to a decent coach but Hayne saw an end to that after they made the semis.

Owners have serious cash now. Get a decent coach and it can work.I have been tied up with local league here for years. There is a genuine hunger for a well run well coached side and the talent is as good or better than any other area the game is played. At the moment the Broncos are so much more professional they get all the kids. If that changes with a good set up then watch out.

Titans need to move to Redcliffe.
Their location is just a transit lounge
You may have a point there feathered friend .......

The Gold Coast has long been a sporting graveyard in Australia with several national franchises struggling to survive in the nation’s sixth-biggest city. A former national rugby league team which played under three nicknames — the Giants, Seagulls and Chargers — for a decade from 1988 was shut down in 1998 as part of the fallout from the Super League war.

Basketball, soccer and rugby union teams have been and gone while the AFL’s Suns are also struggling for relevance having failed to reach the finals since joining that competition in 2011.

The gold coast have never got the gold cosat. Moving from tweed was crazy. Best place ever to watch footy. Absolutely loved it, leagues club, reasonable food and beer and the greatest rubbish delivery system ever under the stands. Loved the steak sangers off the barbie and a 6er of cans on the way to your seat . Great view.

They have probably missed the boat but they should have established themselves in logan and played from the goldie. Something in beenleigh a major presence with a centre of excellence, training facilities . Great nursery. Train from beenleigh to robina for fans. Just better exposure. Less players would live in sin city as well probably establishing themselves in brissie, sanctuary cove or southport dur to freeway congestion.

They could be a powerhouse but they have never been too bright about what a business needs. It was so close down the road but it will never happen now
That stadium is now gone and is full of houses.
Can thanks norths leagues club group for that one. The own seagulls leagues club.

The coast has a problem with being a Queensland based team. They have struggled to straddle the nsw and Queensland area. If they called themselves the northern rivers Gold Coast titans ( or any other non ****ty denzel Washington relying name) they would immediately have won the hearts of everyone from Grafton up and the transients on the coast. Here’s the thing those people in northern nsw, not Byron or Lennox so much, are locals and have been for a long time. They would have embraced the place with that small change in nomenclature. Casino, Grafton, Kyogle, Kingscliff, Cudgen, Tweed, would have been represented. Instead they have a fan base of Polynesian Logan based hill-songers and everyone on the coast who is already a supporter of someone else or afl.

The NRL will give them a big boost by throwing a massive offer at the Turbo's.

As a local, I will give my tow cents.
First and most important is identity. The Burleigh Bears have been going since 1934, and when the Gold Coast got their License, started off with Giants, SeaGulls, Titans etc. Locals still support Burleigh at Pizzey Park. If we are trying to compare, Manly Supporters did not kindly take on the 'Northern Eagles' for a similar reason. If the NRL took its head out of its backside for a moment, renamed the Titans the Burleigh Bears, and then ensured that the ISC Game is Scheduled prior to the NRL game, support will develop. Why have 4-8k going to one game at Pizzey Park and slightly more going to Robina- Have them all going to the same location!
Second is the Location - Robina Stadium, this is a big state government screw up. We all know in Sydney that Home Grounds with Leagues Clubs nearby go off! With a home ground in Robina and post game celebrations in Parkwood, who can get excited by this. Unfortunately the State Govt lost their opportunity to develop adjacent land next to Robina into a carpark and leagues club and went with townhouses instead. The best alternative would be to link up with the Burleigh Bears in nearby Miami, and drop Parkwood!
Third is the Has-Beens, for some reason the Gold Coast Franchise seems to be a haven for NRL Has-beens to come and semi retire. We need some competitive, premiership hungry players who want to put in for the jersey and
Finally, the Coach - as we found out at recent years at Manly, you need a coach who wants to win more than the players and willing to make the changes to get that happening. A coach of Des Hasler or Geoff Toovey's calibre would work wonders
Don;t get me wrong, I am a Manly Supporter, however, like most Manly Supporters living up here, the Gold Coast are our 'second' favourite team and deserve more
Cheers

Great post, found myself nodding in agreement the whole way through. The whole franchise needs to read this post.

Don't blame the locals, blame the NRL
When Jarryd Hayne made his comeback to the NRL, we had 27,000 turn up at Robina for his first game back, which suggests, that support is there, we can generate a crowd!
The issue is getting the punters to keep turning up which his where the NRL (Who selected Brennan and created the license) and the Titans have stuffed up.

I'd throw everything at getting Tim Sheens in to rebuild the place. 2nd is throw everything $$ wise at PBC and Keebra park highs and keep the crop of the finest juniors on the coast

The away teams fans seem to always out number the Tits fans at their own home games.
Says it all really.

I can't think of another team this happens to..... ever.

It looks like we are living up to our reputation as being Coach Killers yet again with the sacking of Garth Brennan seeing as though we are the last team that he coached against and lost.

How many coaches is that now?
