The source is Danny Weidler SMH so I wouldn't take it too seriously but what price getting Thurston or Tonga to Manly.

THURSTON INTRIGUE
DETAILS of Johnathan Thurston's arrest for what has been reported as drunken behaviour are starting to come forth - and those baying for his sacking as skipper might have to start pulling back on their criticism. The truth is there is an agenda against Thurston from sections of the club and the media - hanging Thurston out to dry on this matter takes plenty of heat off coach Neil Henry. The police arrested Thurston and then tipped off the media - it is starting to look increasingly like a major over-reaction from the police who put him away. I've been told there will be evidence presented by Thurston that there were 11 police present when he was arrested. Sources at the Treasury Casino say Thurston had no more than three drinks in the two hours he was there, and he was not asked to leave. His behaviour when the police pulled him up - wrestling a mate - was silly, but not malicious. He did make a mistake by laughing at the police when they said they wanted to arrest him - but most of the other police present were laughing with him. Willie Tonga told the police that if anyone in that group was drunk it was him and he should be arrested.
TONGA WANTS OUT
WILLIE TONGA has fronted the Cowboys, requesting a release from the club. Word is he was given promise from Neil Henry that he could get out of his deal if he ever felt unhappy at the club. The issue for Tonga is that he is too valuable a player for the Cowboys - his form for Queensland this year should make him a leading contender for the Australian team. Tonga has largely been forgotten in discussions with so many centres dropping out of the coming Four Nations.
