This 2nd half debacle

The old saying is a coach earns his money at half time. Against the Bulldogs the team had intent and we only seem to go well when we are behind in the half. We have no idea how to maintain intensity and close out a game.

Last nights game was very winnable and the first 15 minutes after half time killed any chance due to inept and feeble defence!!! I think its a concentration issue. I think its where the team needs leadership and there needs to be a resilience shown after a try is conceded.

Why don’t we do any wrestling in the ruck when defending?? We allowed the Tigers quick play the balls in the 2nd half for 20 minutes and it killed us off. Frustrating because we were the better team for 70% of the game.

we get penalized for wrestling in the ruck, that's why.

I had a good think about this constant blackout period costing Manly games....
Agree that Bozo & Hozza - (Coach and Fitness) respectively have valid points, but I feel its more....
I feel its more Mental toughness above all.
Mental toughness which can be broken down into enthusiasm/belief/guts/determination and I hate to say it but these are human beings - outside distractions.
All of these and more, have killed off 2018 and the footy at times has been top shelf and I include defence....but its Jekyl and Hyde.
Not sure about the fitness, but they do not travel well under fatigue and though I'm not there at the training sessions I can guarantee most sides train under duress in preparation for "That Moment".
That moment is the turning point which every game has....watching Manly play, anyone on Silvertails would have seen in 2018 a point in the match where you say to yourself "Here we go again"
The better sides like Manly of old will Knuckle down at The Moment and turn it around, where this Manly side drops heads with zero resolve and by the time they wake from slumber the game is gone.
The need for a leader cannot be underestimated....we have Jake & Thommo attempting to lift the side with shots and this can lift a side momentarily, but its the constant yap and high expectation from the Brett Stewarts, Lyon, BK, Foran, Watmough who demanded their players to step up throughout the contest....especially at the point of the game I refer to as "That Moment" that won the contest.

Good points mate, definitely lacking in mental toughness. Like you’ve stated the Manly of old would have knuckled down and grinded out 3 or 4 more wins this season. The blow torch gets applied and we go to water unfortunately..

Let’s just hope like hell results go our way and we avoid the spoon and put this horrible fuc$ing season to bed.

The hardest part to take, and its been a season long problem, is that we did enough to win the game and win it well. But we bombed a couple of tries (AFB not passing to Tommy was the glaring one) and had what should have been a legit one taken off us by a bogus call.

But once again it was that 15-20 minute period after half time where we just fell apart.

Still, at least we only lost by 2 points, when we were down 22-8 I thought it was going to be so much worse. Now we just have to hope that whoever wins between Doesn't-matta and the Cows does so by a rather big margin.

Mate another thing I really noted in every play ball....the Tigers took a step forward off the mark and the dummy half would run at the market who was put offside....
Ref would call the player off and the Tigers made 2 line breaks through the guts off this.
The fact they are allowed to play it so quick helps this tactic and as you rightly pointed out- we lack time in the wrestle and very rarely win the tempo of the ruck speed.
plenty of times in that game last night they were not playing the ball properly with the foot as well it was all coached just like the tactics oftargeting Suli defensively.

It's not talent. It's not fitness.
It's a lack of pride. It's not buying into the Manly culture that our great teams of the past have had. It's recruiting players based more on the size of their biceps than the size of their heart. It's a weakness of mind, especially just before and after half-time.
It's a coach and an administration who are out of their depth. . .
And it's bloody depressing.

So they can just win half their games and get paid the same as they do currently?

Well at least we would still have a chance of making the finals winning half our games, as opposed to relying on for/against to avoid the spoon.

Bob Fulton was fining players for missed tackles at one stage as a coach.

Money talks

C’mon you people, the second half isn’t the problem!

It’s the third quarter!!

In the 4th quarter we tend to score almost enough to win, but not quite.

I don’t think Trent has realised this yet, but hopefully THIS WEEK BUDDY!
