The solution?

With all the talk around sin bins and a possible 5 minute sin bin. Would it be an idea to keep it at 10 minutes but if the opposition score a try within that 10 minutes then the binned player comes back on?
I think having a 5 minute bin aswell as a 10 minute bin and the send off is open for way too much inconsistency.
Keeping it at 10 but allowing the player back on after a try will stop the teams scoring 2 or 3 tries whilst down a man and ruining games.
-Face slaps are just a penalty.
  • Forceful contact to the head is a sin bin (with the player allowed back on after a try)
  • Reckless/ dangerous contact is a send off

Also, if a player stays down milking for a penalty then that player should have to go off for a HIA! If you are unable to get up and play the ball then you should be sent for HIA. This will stop most of the "milking"

Why should a team ever be down to 12? Get rid of the sin bin, eject the player from the remainder of the game and allow them to be replaced (costing them one of their interchanges). If a team serially offends they will feel the consequences through reduced numbers on the bench and losing an interchange.

Doesn’t Water Polo use that system, ejected until the other side scores or time expires on the ejection.

From memory that system worked well; apologies if my recall of those rules/terms are incorrect but, in my defence, it has been 35+ years since I played.

So if there's 2 in the bin, 1 try scored, 1 player back on, another try and the other dude back on ?

NHL too I think.
I like the idea of coming back on after a try but think you should serve min 5mins. For example say there’s a high shot when a teams attacking a goal line. Guys binned for ten and then the team scores next tackle. Old mate would be off for a minute then back on again.

From what I've seen (not all games) it is going OK. Leave it at 10, learn not to hit the head or neck.
I agree with this, it's never just the on-field ref making the decision. Borderline ones are being put on review. Get Jake giving everyone lessons in tackling technique and we'll be fine. The teams that adapt more quickly gain an advantage until everyone toes the line and it becomes an even playing field again

Yer but what about the prospect of players abusing the HIA for free interchanges! The HIA is already being abuse.

I really like this suggestion. The player cant return and leaves their team short a player on the bench. The offending team is punished by having a shortened bench..keep doing it then it becomes even shorter.

Problem is a lot of the sin bins are minor offences. Its a massive penalty to be gone for the whole game for a face slap. This scenario could maybe work for send offs but definitely not for sin bins.

Yeah agreed it is probably too much for the minor offences. Maybe there is a solution around this idea though

Hey Robbo, there is zero tolerance for suggestion that benefit the game. how dare you! Logical thought processes play no part in the NRL!

If it's here to stay I just want to see consistency. I like that they are at least trying for that and saying any contact with the head gets looked at, it's not the referee or bunkers job to determine intent, that's for the MRC. Anything that hits the head is penalised though.

I think it's a bit crap that you can get binned for a guys head hitting the point of your shoulder even if you were tackling arms down.

Won't be long until we get a few kamikaze head to arm/shoulders rather than the tackler being at fault.

My guess is storm will be the first
