[Resurrected] The real reason behind the new Alliance stadium

lol, I thought surely this is a joke and looked for the tagline by the beetoota advocate (or whatever it is).

Unfortunately it's just one level above, the DT.

If it was done I wonder how long before beattie and greenburg would start going on about how awesome the full stands look and how Manly should move as they can't fill theirs.

What a crazy idea.

You think the DT is a level above the Betoota Advocate? Are you drunk?

Can add the EPL to that. By far the most viewed league in the most popular sport in the world. Broadcast revenues, merchandising and packed grounds are out of this world. And not one fkn curtain to be seen at any ground, large or small.
Thing with the EPL is their ability to control the TV deal in the UK which means limited on TV Live matches. This in turn forces fans to attend the games. Most matches per round are played at 3pm on a Saturday with no games televised live in the UK.
They have a 12.30pm Saturday match, 2 matches on Sunday and a Monday night game televised and that's it.
The NRL model of staggered matches to placate the broadcasters live requirements goes a long way to these empty stadia.
Further to this is the quality of stadium and match day experience. Looking at brookvale oval and its limited development options does not hold back Stadiums over here. For instance Arsenal's home ground was moved some 900 meters from it's original site to an industrial area where compulsory purchase was used on the businesses. The old ground was then sold as a luxury development on houses and apartments.
I have long wondered if there was appetite for a new northern beaches stadium if the ground could be moved across the road into the industrial area? Relocate business's and Make a proper 30000 seat stadium for NRL and A league and what ever other sport wanted to take up residence.

from the Dt (which phil prob suffers from)

ALLIANZ COST BLOWOUT

The $729 million Allianz Stadium redevelopment is already becoming a political nightmare for the SCG Trust and State government.

The Sunday Telegraph understands the project is not only running behind schedule but also way over budget just a few months after demolition work began.

Instead of opening in the new year of 2022 as planned, we’re told it has been pushed back to June/July which could put in doubt plans to play Origin at the new 45,000 seat venue as planned.

The original $729 million costing has blown out by almost 10 per cent to $800 million.

This will fire up those who campaigned for stadium money to go to schools and hospitals instead.

The work delays are also a major issue for their tenants the Sydney Roosters, Sydney FC and the Waratahs who were desperate to return at the beginning of 2022.

SHOCKED

I hope whoever got kickbacks are enjoying all the $$$$

FMD!!! 800 million dollars for a 45,000 seat stadium. The gods must be crazy... money flushed down the toilet.. we could have lived with the existing stadium and invested elsewhere.

Surely the Roosters would think about taking their home games to Gosford or even BankWest when available. Another 2.5 years out of the Sydney Cricket Ground would test even the most die-hard fan. (Even the Asian Giggity-Giggity man).

ABC news reported lendlease kicked off project.

Not the first time they’ve been given a large project only to not keep promises and go way over budget.

The next builder will have their work cut out for them, same deadline, budget and way behind schedule.

A building project going over time and budget? No chance! The NSW govt would never have that happen on their watch!

How can a Government knock down a perfectly good stadium without having a firm contract with a builder to construct a new one?
Gladys, this is your biggest blunder so far. Lucky for you there is still three years until the next election.
Suck it up Easts!

Time to cut their losses. Just turf the area and leave it as is, divert the money to Homebush and add a roof.
East can play their or if that don’t suit there is always Perth.

Sydney FC, the Roosters and the Waratahs are leading a push to ensure the NSW Government follows through on promises to include a multi-mode curtain in the new Allianz Stadium design, to avoid the sight of playing in a two-thirds empty venue every week.

This really sums it up. That right there should’ve been a pretty decent clue that they were pissing money up against the wall. I might be old school, but once upon a time humans used to feel ample shame to walk away from such a clusterfcuk. It now seems to be celebrated as a badge of honour.
