The real premiership window - 2027 onwards

I keep hearing and reading that Manly is in a premiership window - usually because it is while DCE is still with us and playing at a high standard.

But the reality is that I can't see us beating the likes of Penrith and Melbourne when it comes to finals time in the next couple of years. We can pinpoint many reasons - no quality hooker, the need for a class prop and 13 etc...But for me, until the contracts of Turbo, Jake and DCE roll off, we won't be able to fill out the roster appropriately enough to win the whole thing.

That's why our premiership window will actually open in 2027. Sure, DCE will likely be gone, which is a huge loss. But Turbo should still be a prime contributor (likely in the centers or 5/8), and Jake will hopefully be good for a 30-minute prop role - but most importantly both will be paid probably half of what they are now. I'm sure they will do the right thing for the club when it comes to their next contract. That will allow us to buy another quality forward or two.

By 2027, the likes of Hopoate, Koula, Haumole, Saab, Garrick, Bully and Paseka will all be at their peak.

The final piece is that recently recruited youngsters such as the Large brothers, Joey Walsh, etc., will hopefully be able to contribute in key spine positions, much like in our last window when Foran and DCE burst on the scene as the fresh blood into an established team. 2027 may still be too early for some of those guys but you never know.

Fair points ... I actually think the funds released by the retirement of DCE, and the likely reduction in Jakes and Tom's pay packets will be the catalyst for a fair dinkum premiership tilt ....

We will still have all the excellent support players ... but the funds to get the missing links ...

If you think Tom will be taking 600k in 2027 then I have a Nigerian prince I want to introduce you to.
I think it’s too early to say he will even be playing still in 2027 with his injury record. Anymore serious hamstring injuries & I would think he has thoughts about medical retirement

Even still ... that on it's own would be the difference between signing a $600k prop or an $800k one.
Could very well but also get soaked up in an upgrade for young Hoppa or Walsh or Large etc

Maybe our young halves dont kick on and we need the extra to cash a Moses etc

Maybe Navale and Laiafi kick on and we need to upgrade there.

Landscape could change plenty

IMHO , The NRL won't let him medically retire on an injury that has been frequent.

You honestly think the NRL would sign off on him being on a 600k contract? Cool - I have a bridge I would like to talk to you about

Hypothetical situation hard to say, though Ben Hunt signed for two years at the Donkey’s on a 45% salary cut, big Stefano at the Storm took 250K a season less than what the Tigers offered.

I think based on a recent scenario the 800K to 900K Turbo would be happy with.

Yea medically retired wasn’t phrased right, more meant if he decides himself to hang them up when his contract runs out. Hopefully he has some luck over the next few years & it doesn’t come to that

Respectfully I think there is a massive difference between turbo and those players

Interesting Perspective 2027 premiership Window views feathered friend @Rocky

Premiership winning teams need Premiership Winning Half backs
and a DCE in the hand in 2025 is better than two unproven 2027 Joey Walsh and any one else in the Bush .
As for the Hooker position we have options to optimise it and it is up to the coaching staff to get the best of who we have
A Great coach is defined by what he inspires his players to achieve

The moral of another significant story ...
Last year is History
Next year is a Mystery
This Year is What we have in our grasp . So let us open up the Premiership Winning window and Soar like Great Eagles up to an Inspirational Manly Victory

Have a Great Manly Winning Way Day feathered friends
May you be the inspirational light that shines on every one that you interact with

Every picture tells a story
DCE Been there done that
He is our Proven Premiership Winning Window Man

Jake and Tom paid around 1.2m between them in 2027?

Yeah, I could see that happening. (appreciate that it may not be precisely 50% of their current wage when you put that in your calculator)

Canted see how the NRL can differentiate between players. Hunt is a currant Australian representative same as Turbo. They have set a precedent.
Hunt is 35 and while a very good player Turbo is on another level

Now lets be clear considering his injury run I agree that he should be able to take less (if he wanted to) but to think it would be anything like the Hunt situation....which stinks...I do not see it

Hunt has been a durable and high-class player - who has probably got a couple more good years left.

Turbo's best is of course better, but as we well know, he has missed a heap of games in his career - and likely for that to continue.

To think where Tom may be in 2027 and where Hunt currently is, i don't see it as an outrageous comparison.
