The point in the game i knew we were in trouble

Early in the first half turbo took a kick and was tackled by kafusi(i think) around the legs.
he was able to get straight up to play the ball and then remi smith comes in and smashes him.
the ref did s.f.a.
at that point it was obvious that they could do whatever in the ruck to dampen our attack, thus dictate the game....
and they did.
we didn't help things with silly errors either
I think we did get a six again but this is where the refs need to be better, they don’t have a feel for the game.
We hear every week the commentators banging on about it, the first tackle/kick return sets the tone for the next set.
They need to tweak the ruling - if it’s worthy of a set restart on tackle one (or zero) then it’s a mandatory penalty surely.

* happens every game, every week.

I'm a very optimistic fan, sometimes delusionally optimistic, so I felt it after 16-0 because nobody makes a 16 point comeback against Melbourne in a finals game. But when it was wrapped up was when we scored our first try, looked to be building momentum and maybe jag a second to go into the half, but Tom lost the ball with 5 minutes left in the half. Go into the half with maybe 18-12 or even luckily 18-6, idk there was a slim chance. We still didn't understand from the last time we played Melbourne, how important it is to control the ball.

The first high tackle against manly ignored. I think it was on Parker shortly followed by Harper knocking on the first time, leading to Melbournes first try.
The double movement for Kenny Bromwich try, the replay showed him pushing the ball forward ever so slightly. But cant blame the bunker as their eyes are painted on.
The one on one steal from Munster on Harper.
The elbow by Munster ignored, but the love tap penalised.
The 2nd high tackle from Melbourne, this time on Dylan Walker ignored.
DCE throwing the ball into Olams face after making a half break.
Every fractionally high tackle against Melbourne pinged.
The 10s of laying on manly players at the start of every set ignored.
Harper knocking on several times and forgetting how to tackle Olam.
The high tackle from Papz on Garrick ignored.

And the worst one was that it looked like Trbo wasnt even trying in the 2nd half.
Not withstanding the fact we were absolutely horrible, but like the first time we played Melb were getting called for zero infringing! They never bloody do! That said we don’t make stupid errors (like last time we played) we make it a lot closer contest.

Kickoff.

I thought Tom just dropped it, my son thought it was knocked out, but he’s 11 and over passionate and one eyed. I do agree tho at that point we should of challenged it.
I thought he simply dropped it as well, but it still might have been worth a challenge.

When Melbourne lost their challenge at the end of the game and we were getting absolutely pumped, I turned to my wife and said, "Gee. It's a good thing we've still got that Captain's Challenge up our sleeve."

Gallen said it before the game. Our forwards are popgun compared to the rest of the top 6 teams. Rorters pack will cream us next week. Time for Marty to move on and the young guns to grow into men. Schuster needs to get off the burgers and fries.

Yeah it’s hard to know right. We actually defended the ensuing set, it was the Harper error late that led to Paps try. 18-6 at the half with a challenge up the sleeve wouldn’t have been too bad. Tom did gesture to challenge so that said it all really. Oh well what might have been.

I don’t think they are popgun and in fact we can match it with the good sides I feel. We are just complacent in the pack I feel as we over rely on Tom and the backs getting us out of tge s&&@. Oh well we love to fight another day. Win next week and you never know….

It almost seems that we are completely awe struck and bamboozled when it comes to the Storm. We play as if we need to score off every pass, we do not control our game, we allow the storm to dictate how we play. Its almost like we panic and are more nervous than a virgin bride on her wedding night. Which explains how in both games it was through our errors that opened the door for them to score. We need to play and utilize the other attacking players in our team so the Storm are second guessing our point of attack. As good as turbo is we can not keep trying to get the ball to him for all our attacking plays. Our forwards need to be more bad ass and legally hurt the opposition so that it puts some hesitation in their attacking plays just like when we had the likes of Matai, Glen Stewart, Watmaugh, just to name a few. last night a few of Jorge Taufua missile bone rattling tackles would have been really handy.

Or when they send a try up as no try double movement and the bunker has zero vision and awards it
Nah, I reckon it was a fair try, the ref said he got the ball to the line, the issue was as to whether he promoted the ball after coming to a stop, but it was all one motion.

DCE... take a tackle... @:D @:D @:D
A very big game moment.

Despite the score and errors manly punched back in the first 20 minutes. Walker makes an immediate impact and momentum. Next second, DCE wraps around a good play the ball on last , down the blind and runs into the only player in the line, props and throws a horror ball to oku to kick on last , under pressure the kick is a gift to melb and 20 m restart

The team needed the ball more than anything , a repeat sets, some composure, some respite

Enter miracle play. Melb go to other end

My mate and me have been talking about this all week that surely Dessie would have been drumming into them, that there is no way that we will get any 50/50 calls against them, they have to play smart, because this is what Melbourne do the best in the game

For mine I knew we were in for a tough night when early in our opening set, Felise Kaufusi threw a punch at Brad Parker ... and nothing at all was done about it. The punch missed, but everyone missed it being thrown.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way blaming the refs for the loss. Yes they were bad, but they didn't drop easy balls, miss easy tackles or push bad passes.
