The Non-Wooden Spoon Winners table

1. Manly Sea Eagles - 73 seasons played.
2. Auckland Warriors - 26
3. Wests Tigers - 19

There are also the JV Dragons who have never won the Spoon in their 20 seasons, but as they and the NRL recognise the StG premiership titles as being the JV's titles, well that must mean the JV has also won 3 wooden spoons too.

St Merge have collected 6 if you take into account Illawarra's 3.

Very good point ...

That also means Beaver's games and tries for the N.E are counted as Manlys then. We just won't bother including the N.E win/loss records.

Our club is simply incredible. For us to have never finished last is one of the great club achievements in Australian rugby league. We even managed to avoid the wooden spoon in years where only 10 teams participated and the likelihood of finishing last was even higher

That means we need to recognize Balmain and wests to as spooners

Even more credible is so few times there were that Manly were even close to getting the spoon in the final rounds of a season. Only four times!

After 1953 Manly never came close to the spoon, even in 1964, 1989 & 1999.The worst seasons that came closest to the spoon were in the post Nth Eagles era (2003 & 04) and then Barrett (2016 & 18).

There's only 4 seasons where Manly were a chance of the spoon in the final round: 1947, 48, 53 & 2018.

The end of 2018 was resolved by last placed Eels getting thrashed by the Roosters on the Sat night. Manly were 2 points ahead of the Eels and on the Sunday knew they didn't need to win and got flogged by Brisbane.

In 1947 with two games to go Manly and Parra were equal last. Manly beat Roosters (who were 5 points above Manly on the table) in the second last round and then lost the final game to minor premiers Canterbury. Eels lost both games (Canterbury and Wests).

In 1948 Manly & Norths played each other at Brookie in a final round battle for the spoon. Loser got the spoon. Going into the last round:
Eels 9 points
Norths 8 point,
Manly 7 points.

The Eels won their game. That left Manly vs Norths.

Wooden Spooners Fight To Death - Truth (Sydney, NSW : 1894 - 1954) - 22 Aug 1948
Wooden Spooners Fight To Death
Manly beat Norths yesterday at Brookvale 13-12. For the winners, M. Gilmer kicked five goals from six attempts. The game resolved itself into a fight for the wooden spoon.
The standard of play was far from the best. Manly's best were: R. Beamont, R. O'Connell, R. McDonnell and M. Gilmer (backs), L. Johnson, W. Abbott and K. Kirkwood in the vanguard.
Manly, 13 (J. Walsh try. M. Gilmer 5 goals) beat North Sydney, 12 (J. Sullivan, P. Milgate tries. A. Harley 3 goals).

Season 1953 was another final round escape too. Manly were equal last with Wests going into the final round. Manly faced Canterbury at Brookie, with the visitors looking to get the win and spot in the semis. But Manly won 16-10, while Wests lost 19-9 to St George.

Can see here which # place Manly finished each season:
