(The Mule) Should be in the hall of fame

Mine is for real - a god of a man

I still have a coaster signed by him which my older brother got from him on a monday afternoon in the Steyne front bar (questions about why they were both there...)
How do you know mine isn't??

No, the mule was a Manly champion.
Just a massively honest player, tough but unlike some of today's players with less integrity, didn't have an ounce of grubby sh*t in him.
Still played in a very tough era probably for not a lot...

What a Character this passionate Manly man was .

The Mule was Manlys Dougie Walters . He would smoke and drink and come out on the field and do the Manly jumper proud .

Very under rated player . He was tough and also skillful |
.
A crowd favourite who would always put in a whole hearted performance and never let his team mates or the crowd down .

Proud to say that David was one of my all time favourite Manly characters

David with Des in the good old days

Great player for Manly, also played for Souths
You don’t see many characters like him nowadays
Definitely a crowd favourite

Thanks for posting that, the only good thing that the sporting news has done I see. It's great learning about players I 'should' know more about. That's why I like that on the chair segment on the fan, but more Manly ones would be good. A pity the Manly budget probably doesn't extend to doing these things themselves.

Thanks!

This should be the task for The Golden Eagles :wait:

Manly's history needs to be digitaly recorded.

Take the oldest living Golden Eagle and compile the great memories for the next generation :lightbulb:

This was the era that gripped me as a manly fan. The old p&o jersey which was my first as a kid (until some prick stole it). Growing up as a kid in rural nz and the hype around Ridge when he went to league, couldn’t beat it. If manly wasn’t on tele, I’d remember listening to games on the radio in the evening, I’d hold out for the “around the grounds” score updates. Man I loved the early 90s

@Isz beat you to it with his Should be in the l Hall of Fame thread, but the Mule is legendary enough to deserve two threads all of his own. Nice work by Sporting News
