The Manly Ferry

G'day all,Hey Mark I was a ferrymaster for 25 years on an old timber ferry powered by a 3 cylinder Kelvin(till it was upgraded to a more modern Gardiner) which chugged at perfect trolling speed.Locals use to troll off the back on their way home from work,and when the tailor were on,a couple of beers for the crew and the timetable went out the window and we would do an extra run around the bay.Not a bad way to go home from work,having a beer and a fish.

Never got a chance to take the harbour to Broken Bay run. That would have been something. I'd grab the chance if It still existed just for the bucket list.

Either have I ... but my best memories of the old ferries as a kid (12yo) was racing down to the wharf and catching the return trip when the seas were pumping .... in those days the ferry never stopped for rough weather ...

PSS ... because in those days if you boarded at Manly you could stay (hide) on board at Circular Quay and make the return trip without paying ..

Nah .... different era ... it was a lark and the deck hands looked the other way .... but those original big girls Dee Why and Curl Curl had plenty of places to hide ....

Cut-price ferry tickets are currently available for 2019...
HOWEVER, for full disclosure, travellers are advised that the bar will be closed due to an inability to recruit staff with suitable skills (whilst we have recelved 120 applications we are not confidant that any know that the ice goes into the glass BEFORE the Whiskey), we are trying to ensure that Eagle Rock plays as often as possible but our only copy is on a Bass 45 tape that is slightly stretched after too much use in the past and all passengers WILL need to bring their own deckchair....
