Well that wasn't how I hoped it would finish particularly after making a bet with my stepkids that I would wear a Roosters "something" one day this week including in meetings if Manly lost, and so now I am trying to convince them that a rooster pin/badge counts, or socks.

But hey we went alright. A few things going differently for us in the season and things might have gone our way.

Lehi Hopoate was a huge find and I think next year needs to be DCE's final stand for the cup before starting to look at the next round of halves. We need to also have a look at our backrow and alignment across the forwards, as backrow was this year our weak point. Make a few little tweaks and I think we will improve next season.

Its a long offseason and for me the Footy is done. I have no interest in watching a Panthers v Storm Grand final > too boring.

So for now, I really don't know.

What it means for the site, is that we are lagging behind a few versions of the engine that runs the site, so the offseason is going to see us do 2 things

1 - evaluate our server (we will probably look at our own barebones server, more expensive, but we are the sort of size now, where we are a noisy neighbour on VDS and I will just try and get the accounting right)
2 - Upgrade our tech stack and make sure everything works, migrate that to production

The second will spawn a bunch of subtasks and I think what we will see is a new design or theme as well since this one was build explicitly for an older version.

Its going to take a while and be quite a time expense for me so Ill get to it ASAP. If anyone wants to help with any of that you are more than welcome to throw your hat in the ring, especially any budding designers out there.

Also if anyone has any actual Temple and Webster codes, I am re-doing my office and need to save a buck :)

It was just the most fu*kd way to end. As soon as Koula and Jake knocked themselves out it was over. Then to capitulate like they did was hideous to watch. If we hadn't had a 50%,Turbo, not lost those 2, put up a decent defensive effort, not got fu*ked in the arse by Atkins and fought till the end in a close competative game but got beaten by a better side it would've been easier to swallow. This one has been very hard to take.

One of your best rants Mick, summed it up perfectly.

You do a great job Dan with this site. It’s a great community and we are all fired up each year aftter far too long off seasons. In reflection, that was a long season for Manly, but paradoxically DCE who plays more games due to rep duties, Vegas, Origin etc than anyone else seemed the freshest at season end.

Much like you Dan you are first here, last gone, but bring it every time.

How about you start a GoFund me page with a link posted here?. I’m sure many of us would pitch in to help out finances-wise.

It was like watching a fcking horror movie and you new what the outcome was going to be.
Possibly one of the worst games I had to watch after the Darren Albert fckd Newcastle GF.
😡😡😡
1997 was tough to take, but a horror show where we didn't know the ending.
Mind you, we didn't know either the sequel of the next 10 years.
So it was more like 2013...

Just carry around a couple of brown paper bags, or wear a sombrero.

PS: Good luck with the upgrades - and that concludes my knowledge regarding what you're doing.

Please dont wear the monetary costs.

A think tank to raise any dollars needed is easy to organise.

Just say the word.

Dan's a big boy so I don't want to speak (type) for him but over the years I've seen that he loathes taking money for the site except for premium membership and the tipping comp (even that is like pulling teeth). So for those that can contribute, many thanks.

I don't know if now having 6 or so kids changes things, but I'd be surprised...no...flabbergasted, I say, if he wants a go fund me. (Maybe we need to find out where he lives and send him a big ole wad of cash - you know.... roosters style).

I appreciate the sentiment, and I don't even own the site.

This is true the kind of help I would appreciate is the collective expertise across the site in making this into a self funded model with things like merch

Good summation @mickqld but you were generous with the 50% Trbo call. I reckon he was 30% with shoulder and knee and the fact that his opposite number was playing at 150% it was a huge mismatch.

Based on the last off season and 2024 improvement I have faith in the coaching department at this stage to move the right players on and shuffle accordingly.

I can’t go another season death riding Croker and Garrick as they are both great clubman and talented but just not in their current positions.

There’s probably nothing worse than a long off season on here , it’s the okay for a few months but by January everyone’s eating the paint off the walls.

I understand why many say sayonara for 6 months.

Yes I doubt @Dan would take any extra money by charging more but perhaps if you found out the cost of a new server @bob dylan it would be easy for you to set up a Go Fund Me and promote it yourself ( on here of course ).

It can’t hurt.
