Manly could be only days away from making a formal offer to Kieran Foran as they give serious thought to using some of the money from the departure of Addin Fonua-Blake to bring their prodigal son back to the club.
Foran is off contract at the end of the year, Canterbury having pulled their contract offer to the New Zealand international after he hesitated on accepting their deal.

Their loss could yet be Manly’s gain as the Sea Eagles look to bolster their squad following the departure of Fonua-Blake. The Tongan prop is expected to confirm a move to the Warriors as early as Tuesday, having been given permission by Manly to explore his options outside Sydney.

The Warriors expressed an immediate interest and had the salary cap space to weigh in with a lucrative three-year-deal for Fonua-Blake, believed to be worth upwards of $2.5 million.

Fonua-Blake was on $840,000 next year at Manly and slightly more in 2022. While the Sea Eagles cap was tight, they now have money to spend and a desire to use it.

Foran looms as a viable option given he is off contract, has a preference to return to Manly and is likely to be available at significantly less than the $1.2 million a year he was earning at Canterbury.

He would also help alleviate some of the pressure on Manly captain and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans and provide an experienced sounding board for young five-eighth Josh Schuster, who has been earmarked as the Sea Eagles’ long-term No 6.

Schuster made his first-grade debut for Manly against the Wests Tigers a fortnight ago and there is a belief within the club that Foran would provide not only depth in the halves, but also a shoulder for Schuster to lean on.

He would also give them an insurance policy in case Cherry-Evans suffered injury — the Manly skipper has played every game for the Sea Eagles this season.

Manly also have Cade Cust in their squad but there is a chance he could move to hooker in the off-season, the club having already made the decision to let their regular No 9 Danny Levi head to the open market.

Foran left Manly at the end of 2015 but his time since at Parramatta, the Warriors and Canterbury has been pockmarked with personal issues and injury.

Every time he looked to be rediscovering his best form, he suffered another setback. Having returned in round four this year, he strung together 14 consecutive games and was one of the best performers in a Canterbury side that struggled to find wins.

Foran scored four tries, recorded 12 try assists and nine line break assists before he was struck down by a pectoral injury. He subsequently underwent surgery but is expected to be fit to resume pre-season training,

It’s looking increasingly likely that his destination will be the club he helped to the 2011 premiership.

And you would risk the loss of Schuster, someone some say is superior to Foran at the same age. How can you think that way. Its about the long term, not half season next year. We lose Schuster and we lose one of the most important players coming through in the next decade. That's madness. And for what. A player who has played less than half a season for the past 5 years. You're dreaming of maybes and past glories. Might as well bring Cliffy back. He's only 58

It's happening. I can't believe the negativity around Foran. I'm sure he won't take long to silence the critics.
Once they see a well drilled side that can build pressure, game manage and grind teams down they will rejoice again! In the same way they did with Dasler last season.. this season he couldn't do much with all the injuries and levi/croker (spew emoji) combo. No one could. Last year we still had two great hookers.

Cmon grizzly old bear jump on board we will have both he and Schuster. Dont listen to zorba hes a flog. Des has plans and i think with afb moving on we will play jake in the front row. With the Schu playing lock. His speed and skill will be an awesome asset, he can be our new Gifty! Jakes too slow compared to other locks in this new game.

To expect Schuster to start at 6 and carve up all year at 19 years of age is a big ask. I think Schuster will be part of our 17 all year but without the pressure of steering a team around. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jake start at 13 and move to prop and bring Schuster on at 13

You guys do realise that locks aren't the wide running ball playing backrowers of yesteryear ?? Locks these days are middle forwards and they aren't using silky ball skills and deft kicking games - so forget playing Schuster there. Gift wore 13 but played edge forward role where his football ability was useful. Likewise Wade Graham plays an edge. Schuster will be wasted in the middle as bash and barge tackling machine. He either plays 6 or take Thommos left edge spot.

Sadly his plans look like turning us into the bulldogs @:(
Quite the opposite.. we are jettisoning the deadwood. Getting an experienced 5/8th to help Cherry-Evans and Moving walker back to center. We have moved on a fair bit of experience and need some leadership in our side. Moving Jake to prop in afbs place and Schuster to lock will speed us up around the middle and he can be a link man for set plays etc the dogs had no x factor and des played them to a style of football they were capable of... we have genuine x factor in
Suli
Walker
Turbo
Schuster
Dce

Add Foran to direct the team. Get a decent and fast winger and we can be a real force. Oh and we need a 9 which imo cust will become until fainu comes back..
You're welcome
